| Blue Italic numbers are time in years before the present day (YBP). | Tested | Predicted | |||||||||||||||||||
| Example: 300 YBP = 1700 AD for someone born in 2000. | |||||||||||||||||||||
| The above diagram depicts the results of SNP analysis for two types of members. The blue boxes represent members who have taken tests to identify their SNPs. The yellow boxes represent your Admin's analysis based on a member's matches. Please note that the yellow boxes are speculative and are not a substitute for actual testing. An actual test is likely to put one on the same branch, but possibly link to a different SNP or a new branch, not shown. Example four members under FT150888 are speculative, they could actually be more closely related to FT83431, a descendant of that SNP, FT83415 (not shown), or descendants discovered in the future. This diagram shows the relationship between tested members and the SNPs in those direct lines. Many of the SNPs listed have descendants that are not in the direct line. Example: The known descendants of L21, in addition to DF13 are F4006, DF63, A5846, BY11894, BY24776 and BY2994. Since the latter are not in the direct line of listed members, they are not included, in order to simplify the diagram. The SNPs not listed are shown in the Haplotree at FTDNA. The diagram is also constructed to show a general timeline reflecting the age of the SNPS. The age of a SNP is a statistical estimate of when an ancestor lived. This is expressed in years before the present time (YBP). The age is an estimated average with a 95% confidence interval ranging from ±20% at the top of the chart to ±150% at the bottom (present day). Some Examples: M269 represents a man who lived between 10,400 - 15,600 years ago, the mean value is 13,000 YBP. FT150888 (550 YBP) represents a man who lived between present day and 1100 years ago. These are rough estimates that may improve over time as analytical techniques develop, more people are tested (Big Y) and new SNPs are discovered. The diagram shows the relationship between members. As an example, refer to the locations on the diagram for Jackman (#893688 and #333647). Same surname, but they are very distant relatives. They are shown to have a common ancestor (P312) about 4800 YBP. Although the date is a rough estimate, the relationship is very reliable. These two members will not show up as STR matches at FTDNA because the genetic distance is very large and the timeline is beyond recorded history. Note also that Jackman #333647 is a very close STR match with McPherson #IN63307 (GD=2@111) and also a match with #91587 (GD=4@111). These people are related within the period of recorded history. The verified SNPs shown in the chart are from different types of testing. Those marked with an asterisk (*) are from Big-Y and the remainder are from single SNP tests or what are known as backbone packs.
