This page contains short summaries of the lineage of our active members.  We have posted these as a brief introduction to the research they have completed.  Additional information may be available using the search function at the Family Tree DNA homepage. Members listed below with the same haplotype grouping are Y-DNA matches.

Thomas Jackman b. 1777 in Ballybeg, St. Mullins, Carlow Co. Ireland. Descendants John,Peter and James were all born in Ballybeg. Peter, the son of James was born in Gusserane, New Ross in Wexford County.  This line is believed to be related to many Jackman families in Tulow, Carlow County and Wexford County.  The names Jackman and Chapman in Wexford are pronounced the same, so this is possibly another connection.

Robert Jackman b. 1712 in Wales, sailed with two sons, Robert and Henry from Ireland in 1745.  They may have landed in Philadelphia or Baltimore. The family settled in Washington Co, PA, where they operated a grist mill.  Robert’s son John Jackman moved to Ohio.  Allen, the son of Stockdale, moved to Wichita, KS and more recent descendants settled in Altus, OK.

John Jackman b. 1745 in Ireland, came to America and lived for some time in Brooke Cty, VA (now WV).  He may have lived in Maryland and Pennsylvania before that. John owned land, was a farmer and moved across the Ohio River in the first decade of the 1800s.  John Jackman may have fought in the Revolutionary War, but this has not been proven. Adam Clarke Jackman fought in the Civil War for the 80th Ohio Volunteers.  The descendants of this line migrated from Carroll Cty. OH to Cameron MO and Minneapolis KS. The descendants of John are Adam, Robert, Adam Clarke, Harry Finley and Harry Finley Jr.

Richard Robert Jackman b. ca.1759 emigrated from Colonial America to Upper Canada as a United Empire Loyalist and was granted land for his service. Thamesville, Ontario has been the home base for several generations. Myles Jackman moved to Saskatchewan as a homesteader, but moved back to the Thamesville area after the death of his wife.  The descendants of this line are William Atwell, Edward Atwell, Myles and Edward Clifford Jackman.

James Jackman, born about 1611, perhaps in Devonshire, England, died 1694 in Newbury, MA. A great grandson, George removed from Newbury to Boscawen,NH and his son Benjamin answered the early call to arms in the American Revolution, was designated Lieutenant in the local militia but may not have seen any real action.  Benjamin’s son Joshua moved further north to Vermont.  His grandson Samuel, a railway man, did see action in the civil war on the Union side.  Edrick, Samuel’s son, also with the railway, moved with his job north into the Eastern Townships of Quebec and it was there that Howard was born.

The earliest ancestor in this line is James Jackman of Exeter, Devonshire, England who was born in 1611.  James migrated to the new world and settled in Newbury, MA. Descendants of this line migrated to Boscawen, NH stayed for three generation and then returned to Massachusetts.

James Jackman is thought to have lived in Kilkenny Co. Ireland. His son William arrived in the USA in 1851 and made his way to Missouri, where he married Mary Gleason in 1855. They moved to the Territory of Minnesota about a year later.  William purchased 160 acres in Hassan Township and he and his descendants worked at farming until the mid-1900s. William’s son John moved to Montana. Sons James and Thomas moved to Washington State. Son William moved West during the gold rush period.

Patrick Jackman b. 1796 in Kilkenny Ireland, married Judith Meagher. Several generations lived in the Hugginstown area of Kilkenny County and recent generations in Waterford.  Members of this line were involved in the leather trade and crafted boots for the local gentry.

Michael Jackman was born ca. 1763 and died 1820 in Dunmore, St. John’s Parish, Co. Kilkenny, Ireland. Family notes handed down indicate that Michael Jackman had origins in Cornwall, England –indicating that he was either born in Ireland, or his ancestors were from Cornwall.  Son Charles Jackman married Catherine Phelan 1827 in St. John’s Parish.  Four children of Charles and Catherine emigrated to the U.S. in the early 1850’s, settling first in Elgin,Kane Co., IL and finally in Palo Alto Co., IA where the 3 brothers farmed for many years.

John Jackman was born ca. 1795 in Rathgarry, Ballinakill Parish, Co. Kilkenny, Ireland.  John married Ellen Comerford and raised ten children.  The families in this line have remained in the Rathgarry area and worked as farmers for many generations. The direct descendants of John are Patrick, John, Michael and John b. 1900.
