About us
My name is Diane Mason Gray, and one of my maternal family surnames is Higgerson (also Higgason). I have worked on the Higgerson/Higgason genealogy in my spare time for over 35 years. This surname in the U.S. seems to originate in Virginia, and many of Virginia's records burned during the War Between the States either accidentally or purposefully. I have been unable to establish the immigrant. There are scanty lesser records that reveal Higginsons, Higgasons, Higgersons, Hickersons, etc., were in Colonial Virginia, but without wills, I have not been able to assign many individuals to families.
When DNA testing became available, I attended lectures and read books in an attempt to understand what it might mean to genealogists and subsequently requested that two relatives be tested. I am hopeful that others will submit their samples so we might sort out the great puzzle.
