The Herr Family DNA Program was started in March 2007 for the purpose of identifying the relationship of the different Herr families in the USA, Canada, Germany, Switzerland, and around the world. We invite each and every Herr and Herr descendant to participate in this program so we can clarify our family relationships more precisely. We have several different families in the project: The Pennsylvania Herr branch descend from Hans Herr, a Mennonite Anabaptist Elder who fled Switzerland and led his followers through the Palatinate and to Lancaster PA about 1710. You can find more on Hans Herr and his Lancaster County, Pennsylvania community through the web site of the Hans Herr House and Museum: https://hansherr.org/ The Michigan Herr descend from Fidelius Herr, who emigrated from Oensbach Baden to Nankin Township, Wayne County, Michigan in 1831. A third Herr branch descended from Johanne Herr, who emigrated from Saxe Goethe to the Flint Michigan area in 1851. The origin and connection of other Herr branches remain to be discovered. Other families in the project have similar names: Hair, Hare, and Heer.
