About us
The Henry Y-DNA Surname Project was founded in 2007 by Doris Nolan Parton with the purpose of sorting out various Henry families in East Tennessee.
The project has expanded and is open to Henry surnames that are Y-DNA testing and who meet the following qualifications:
1. YDNA test results of men with any variation of the Henry surname
2. YDNA test results of men of any surname who have a strong Y-DNA match to a Henry in the project. This indicates a common paternal ancestor at some point in the past. This must be a very close match verified by more than 65/67 YDNA markers or higher marker test.
3. Men of any surname who are testing (temporarily) to see if their biological male line is Henry.
4. Adoptees who can prove via autosomal (Family Finder) results they are a direct family descendant AND by YDNA they are a direct male Henry descendant.
For those with Henry connection through a female line, we encourage you to find a direct Henry brother from her line to Y-DNA test.
We are exclusively a Y-DNA project, but we do accept members of male Henrys choosing to do only Family Finder testing, however, we have no real services to offer regarding autosomal results other than using them to find parent/child relationships to Henry surnames in conjunction with YDNA results.
We require that the membership request be entered in the name of the man who will be providing the DNA sample. Sponsors and researchers are welcome to be the contact for the account.
We recommend Y-DNA testing at the 67-marker level or above (111 or BigY) for meaningful results.
