Goals and Schedule of the Haworth-Howarth DNA Surname Project
Draft July 2020
- Vision Statement: Completed revised vision statement by June 2020 to include the breadth of our coverage (Haworths-Howarths from Lancashire and Yorkshire) and the possible addition of autosomal DNA test to our foundation yDNA testing. Review Vision Statement December 2020 and every six months thereafter.
- Goals and Schedule: Set initial goals/objectives July 2020 covering membership, meetings, minutes, history (background, historical works), education, newsletters, and website development. Revise goals by September 2020 and review them every six months thereafter. Goals and Schedule are intricately linked with Record Keeping.
- Record Keeping: Establish a program of record keeping to include the delineation of the types of records of the program (from ‘Goals and Schedule’) and set forth who will keep records and how they will be posted and archived. Initially outline completed by July 2020 with deep review in December 2020.
- Website: Complete the rework of the FDTNA website by September 2020. Elements of the development include project description, appearance (e.g., homepage, banner), presentation of member test results and grouping, displaying key members (with bios and pictures), and posting minutes. Note: considerable progress has been made as of June 2020.
- Assignments and Organization Chart: Establish volunteer assignments (e.g., administrators, co-administrators, genealogist/historian, geneticist/educator, secretary, webmaster) with descriptions. Initial presentation completed in July 2020. Expanded formal document given in September 2020 with major review in March 2021.
- Teamwork: Maintain reoccurring project meetings and team building. Remind ourselves that we are a volunteer organization, celebrate progress, remain mindful of the workload. The management group will conduct weekly (virtual) meetings from May through July 2020, and monthly meeting from September through December 2020.
- Education: Establish a program with recommendations on DNA and ancestry education to include a spreadsheet with goals, resources, titles, and links by September 2020 with review in December 2020.
- Membership
- Outreach: Achieve 45 members by September 2020 and 60 members by June 2021. This will entail use of various social media including Facebook and connecting with various family associations,
- Support: Help members and prospective members to interpret their DNA results and complete their status on the Surname Website. Help especially NPEs using triangulation of Y-methods combined with known genealogy. Assist members and prospective members with their family trees to undergird the DNA record. Elevate 75 percent of existing members (27 of 36) to full status, properly grouped with at least 111 marker test, earlies paternal ancestor with dates, and haplogroup by September 2020 and reviewed March 2021.
- DNA Research: Devise a program to integrate the use of data from various DNA collection methods, identify unique markers and the role of mutations. The program with a timeline will be prepared by September 2020 and reviewed by March 2021.
