This project was established to reconstruct the early families of Hatteras and Ocracoke islands - Surname Only.

Many families have oral histories of their ancestors being Native American and this reconstruction project may be able to confirm or refute these stories. If your paternal (surname) line ancestors were not from Hatteras or Ocracoke Islands or elsewhere on the Outer Banks, you do not qualify for this project. Depending on your ancestry, the Hatteras Mothers or Hatteras Families projects may be better suited to your needs.

Very few, if any, e-mails will be sent through the project.  To keep current with genetic genealogy information, please subscribe to the blog, www.dna-explained.com by clicking on the small grey "follow" button on the right side of the page.  Not everyone appreciates e-mails from project administrators, and taking a blog approach allows people who are interested to subscribe without bothering those who aren't.  So, please, subscribe to keep current.
