Welcome to our project! This is a Surname-based Y-DNA Project. The Y-chromosome is passed down the direct male line, from father to son - just as in surnames. To join this project, one must fulfil two criteria:- 1. Must have one of the following surnames:- - Hathway - Hathaway - Hatheway - Hattaway - or other similar sounding variant. Where there is sufficient evidence of a surname change from Hathaway (or variant) to another surname, such individuals might also join the project at the discretion of the Hathaway Y-DNA Project Administrator. 2. The prospective project member must have taken a Y-Chromosomal test (Y37/Y67/Y111/SNP testing). ****NOTE: PLEASE DO NOT SEND A JOIN REQUEST IF YOU HAVE NOT TAKEN A DNA TEST. FOR THOSE WHO WISH TO PARTICIPATE IN THE HATHAWAY DNA PROJECT BUT HAVE YET TO TAKE A TEST, PLEASE SEND AN EMAIL TO HathwayDNA@gmail.com . **** Whilst only males possess a Y-chromosome, we welcome female members who have tested a male relative who possesses one of the above surnames. The bulk of our existing members are those who have taken a Y-STR test. For anyone who wishes to take a Y-DNA test or considering an upgrade, please feel free to drop us a line before ordering so that we can advise you accordingly. Generally speaking, the more markers tested, the more it will help us establish the modal values for the Hathaway lines. With regards to the 'Next Generation' SNP testing, we two members who have taken a BigY test. It is our hope that this number will grow and in time, we might be able to ascertain subtle differences within the Hathaway family lines.
