About us

Golding - The Golding name has existed as a surname in the UK since at least 1086 ... with numerous variants noted in the Domesday book, which was a survey of people, places and things by William the Conqueror. Some historians suggest that Golding started as Coldinc, a Danish tribe that pledged loyalty to William the Conqueror. 'Gold' as the root of a surname is very popular in the northern European region from the Atlantic coast across the Baltic areas into the modern areas of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. There are many Goldings of Baltic origin, even many UK Goldings can should origin in the Baltic with settlement in the UK after 1840. DNA testing can help us determine which roots and lines we descend from. Please feel free to send me your questions. You are also welcome to join us on the web as we research our wide variety of Golden, Golding, Goulden et al families:

Gaulding/Gaulden/Gauldin - All those with this surname and it's variants are related back to John Gaulding, 1665, of St. Peters Parish, New Kent County, VA. His origins are a mystery. Some family histories have him coming from England, some from Ireland and one from Scotland. We are not related to the Goldings or Goldens genetically but since there are many mispellings on records that show Golden or Goulding, having us in the Golden DNA Project presents us with the ability to show the lack of connection easily. If you have the Gaulding name in any of it's forms please join us as we attempt to find our starting point across the pond.
