To test the "single founder" hypothesis by discovering how many genetically-distinct Foad and Foat family lines there are;
If there is more than one founder, to assist traditional genealogy as far as possible by using the clustering of genetic markers to tell each participant which founder he is descended from, thereby connecting the families together; and
To discover as far as possible the deep ancestry (that is, the prehistorical geographic and ethnic origins as defined by the genetic haplogroup) of these family founders and their respective descendants including our project participants.
