In 1790, there were families with some spelling variation of the Emerick surname living in Washington County, Maryland and in Bedford, Berks, Chester, Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Montgomery, Northumberland, and Philadelphia counties of Pennsylvania. It must be noted that the surname of the descendants of Johann Georg Emerick, of Chester county, had by that time evolved to EMERY.

Since that time a number of pedigrees for these families have been published in book form and on the web. To a large extent these genealogies are believed to be accurate, there are, however, mistakes based on incorrect assumptions, in some cases and in others resulting from the difficulty of finding accurate information.
