The Dove DNA Project is open to all who have tested with FTDNA (FF, yDNA, or mtDNA), and who are interested in working together to find their common heritage through DNA testing and the sharing of genealogical information. Currently, we do not accept any spelling variations of Dove. In the ten years that I have spent researching my family, I have never seen the name "Dove" spelled any other way. It appears that everyone who was literate in English in the early years of our country was familiar with the simple four-letter spelling for our species of bird. However, our current policy of accepting no spelling variations is subject to change. We do accept men with the German surname Taube, which in English, translates to "Dove". It is well documented that some German immigrants chose to anglicize their surname from Taube to Dove. Specifically, the Dove families of Rockingham County, VA and Mecklenburg County, NC.
