1. Thomas Dove, Born Abt 1735 Ireland, Died 1801 Warren County, GA. --- Kits # ***1642, **9640
A 1772 Mecklenburg County, NC land deed clearly shows Thomas Dove was living in the same place and at the same time with George Dove, who immigrated to America from the Palatinate (Germany) in 1764. George Dove anglicized his German surname from "Taube" to the English translation "Dove". We now know through Y DNA testing that George Dove and Thomas Dove are not related. Thomas Dove's Final Y Haplogroup is considered Scotland / Northern Ireland and that matches information that was passed down from our elders. We are still unsure why so many of Thomas Dove's children married individuals with German ancestry.
For more information on Thomas Dove, see his Find-A-Grave Memorial.
2. Gilbert Dove, Born Abt 1832 Jackson County, AL Died 1910 Logan County, AK --- Kit # **7778, **4236, **5618
It appears that Gilbert Dove is the son David Dove b. 1805 in Jackson County, AL. David married Winnie Ridge. Gilbert Dove is listed on the 1850 Walker County, GA census with his mother and siblings. David Dove is listed sequentially with James Dove on the 1830 Jackson County, AL census. Given the respective age groups for David Dove and James Dove on the 1830 census, it appears that James Dove is the father of David Dove. David's brother, Harden Dove, is listed on the previous page of the 1830 census. Harden Dove lived a long life and on his 1880 KY census, lists his father's place of birth as Ireland and his mother's place of birth as England.
3. Elizabeth Dove Sergent, Born Abt 1774 NC, Died Abt 1852 Harlan County, KY.
Elizabeth Dove married Abraham Sergent. Elizabeth is recorded on the 1850 Harlan County, KY census with her youngest son, Andrew Jackson Sergent. Per that census, she was born in 1774 in North Carolina. Most genealogists believe her husband was likely born in North Carolina and that his family was Dutch. Elizabeth’s oldest children were born in North Carolina and her youngest were born in Kentucky.
