Hello. I am a 81 yr old male with Dorsey DNA results through Ancestry to share and compare. However, I keep getting an error when I try to upload my results it to FTDNA. In the meantime, is there any other way/method that I can use to participate in this surname study and compare my results to see if I match with one of the lineages? Thank you.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has any updates on the mystery surrounding the Lineage VIII Nicholas County, WV (then VA) Dorseys? Family done genealogy efforts have always found my relations to be related to John and Arah Stockdale Dorsey through their son Samuel W. Dorsey born 1798 in Maryland (who married Nancy "Myra" Nutter born 1802). Any information anyone has would be really appreciated. Thank you!

My ancestor is James Dorcey born Ireland abt 1806. Married to Eliza? in Ireland. Emigrated to St Clair County Michigan about 1844. Possibly through Canada.

Since 2017 I have found that James and Eliza (Elizabeth) had a son John who was one of the last Union soldiers killed in the Civil War in MD. John's children went by the name of Dorcy and one son settled near Seattle. I have read that James was a half brother to a John Darcy that came to Michigan in 1860 and died in 1860 they settled near James in Kenokee Twp, St Clair County Michigan and attended the Catholic Church in Emmet. There is a possibility they had a sister, Margaret who married an O'Meara. The O'Mearas had a son who moved to Denver CO where he opened a Ford Dealership which is currently run by the 4th generation. They came from Tipperary so I assume that James was from there also. James and Eliza had sons, Patrick William whose birthplace is listed as Canada in the census but family lore says that Patrick was born on March 17th aboard ship. They lived Canada long enough to also have a son Jerimiah before coming to Michigan. Where the were listed in the 1850 Census as O'Dorsey. After coming to Michigan they had a son Michael. There must have been some sisters in there but I have not identified them for sure. I have searched the church records which have helped a lot. i have no information on Michael, Patrick was a raftsman and drowned in the St Mary's River in 1902 but had left his wife and family of 5 sometime between 1880 and 1890, Jerimiah went by Dorsey and had an Inn North West of Port Huron Michigan called the Dorsey House with his wife Hannah McMahon they daughters but only had one son that lived to adulthood and he went by Dorcy

Any Dolsay, Dolsey, Dolsy or DxLSxx variant? Supposed to have originated in Maine territory or in nearby Canada early 1800’s. Possibly related in some way to the Doll surname in Monroe County, Pennsylvania, especially around 1870’s.

I would like to update/create a missing branch of the Dorsey tree connecting Leakin/Lacon Dorsey who helped settle Stockton's Station, Flemingsburg, Ky to Edward Dorsey I,the Immigrant. Leakin is NOT the Larkyn who served in the Revolution as many resources report. His father is Joshua who moved from MD to Frederick Co, VA, I know he has a probate there dated 1778, but cannot access it!. Joshua's father was Edward III, who married Phoebe/ Philomena, and names him in his will. Is there a way to update? I have no information about his other children, except Rachel who married Maj. George Stockton.

Gary Dorsey I am looking for Gg Uncle who could fit your William. I know there were some Darcy or Dorsey relatives in Illinois as my Gggrandfather Edward J Darcy was married in Illinois in 1839. He had a bro. , first name unknown, who also immigrated with him from Kilkenney Co. Ireland in the 1830's. Wondering if it could be your William? My Edward J then moved to MO where he bought a farm and raised a family near Whitesville MO.

i'm not aware of a brother Edward, although the next generation had one Edward abt 1847, (nephew to my William). I think he must have died as a young child by 1852. So it's possible he is a brother I missed. I believe my William was a native of County Meath because it's what his tombstone says. His sister was wed and baptized her children in Meath. William, his brother Laurence/Lawrence and his sister Elizabeth Darcy Lamb settled in Deerfield, Lake, Illinois. They were farmers. My great grandparents also relocated to Missouri, Cote Sans Dessien, Callaway County between 1920 an 1927. I don't know if that is a coincidence. There was an Andrew Dorsey in Callaway much earlier than that. Are you in the Dorsey project with your Ydna?

Hello Stephen, my name is Bill (William) Darcy. My Grandfather was Frank Darcy. His Grandfather Edward J Darcy immigrated to the USA in the 1830's from Kilkenny Co. Ireland. I suspect his more distant family was from Galaway Co. since that is the closest concentration of Darcy/Dorsey families. My ancestors have many John, Thomas, William, Edward, Martin Darcy names. Some used Dorsey in the past in the USA but in Kilkenny Co the spelling is Darcy.

I suspect you are right and that at some point our lines cross. So far I have not been able to establish any connection with Dorsey's who stayed in the Clifden/Galway area or the two brothers that Bridget left behind in Ireland. If I do make the connection to the Darcy's on Kilkenny I'll let you know. Thanks for your insights.

Hi again. I posted previously about getting an error when trying to upload my results from Ancestry to FTDNA. I have since successfully completed the transfer, but I do not know how to compare my results to the DNA Results for this project. Can someone help? My earliest known ancestor is John Dorsey b. abt. 1800, d. abt. 1833, first appears on the 1830 Census in St. Martin Parish, Louisiana. He married Catherine Riggs, sister of Eli Riggs, who also appears on the 1830 Census. Any assistance in trying to link my info with this project would be greatly appreciated.
