About us

The Courtney DNA Project has allowed researchers to accomplish many goals unavailable without YDNA testing.

There were thirty Courtney families living in the U.S. with children born previous to 1800.  With the Great Migration during the 19th and 20 century over 1,000 Courtneys came into the U.S. including many from Ireland, Scotland and England

American Courtney Ancestors - prior to 1800

American Courtney Immigrants - 1500's to present

FamilyTreeDNA began YDNA testing in 2000. A major advance was in 2013 with the addition of the Big Y, and an emphasis on SNP mutations. In 2020 the "Discover" feature was introduced which allows everyone to look up haplogroups and discover their families origins, migrations and time tree.

A short list of just a few of the amazing discoveries made possible by YDNA testing.
