About us

What appears here is a highly simplified summary, most of which was written in 2005.

Cheshire Haplogroup

About 30 of the nearly 75 results received by 2008 are identical, and those concerned undoubtedly have a common ancestor. I call this identical DNA signature the Cheshire Haplotype because several of the individuals concerned are known to have very early Cheshire origins. Many of the remainder differ by only one or two mutations, and clearly also come from Cheshire. Probability calculations suggest that they all had a common ancestor in about the year 1500 plus or minus a century or more.

Several of these identical results are 25-marker tests. Compared with some other 25-marker tests exhibit mutations. This is splendid – the identical ones define the Cheshire haplotype, and those with mutations may in due course help to establish family groupings.

Mayo/Sligo Group

Some of the Mayo/Sligo participants have had 25-marker analyses made, and these show too many differences from the Cheshire haplotype for there to be any possibility that the Mayo/Sligo Cardens could have come from Cheshire. However an extraordinary result for a Mr Fred Calladine closely matching the Mayo/Sligo results suggests new possibilities.

East Kent Haplogroup

Two results (both from the original six) define the totally different East Kent Haplotype. They come from Ron and Bill, who both live in Kent, England. Bill’s was a welcome surprise, as it was previously only guessed that his great grandfather, Sergeant George Carden, born 1818 in France, had Kent ancestors. Their common ancestor lived before 1700 and probably before 1450.

The following sub-groups whose members closely match the Cheshire Haplotype are reported upon in the website mentioned above, as well, of course the Mayo/Sligo and East Kent groups:
