About us

On 3 May 2019 a group of Brewton researchers are meeting for a Brewton Day in Claxton and Hagan, Georgia.  The day will include a visit, lecture, and tour of the Brewton Cemetery in Hagan, Georgia, the resting place of Nathan Brewton and Nancy (Fontaine) Brewton and many of their descendants.  At lunch will be presentations on Brewton/Bruton research and this DNA study.  Then there will be a tour of the Tattnall County Archives, followed by a social event for all attendees.  While the focus will be on the Nathan Brewton family, all Bruton/Brewton researchers are welcome to attend!  For information on attending, please contact the administrator.

This gathering will be our fourth, following a meeting of Bruton/Brewton researchers of three of the six colonial Carolina families on 6-8 October 2006 in Spartanburg, South Carolina, a weekend and then full week of research in the Tattnall Archives the week of 1 March 2008 in Reidsville, Georgia, and then 4-5 October 2013 in Kinston, North Carolina, to visit family sites of the original Bruton settlers in that area.

On 4 May 2019 the Tattnall Archives is hosting its third annual Wiregrass History Conference.  Details are available at:  http://www.tattnallarchives.org/

We need more Bruton/Brewton descendants to take the test, particularly Brutons/Brewtons with documented European origins.  Please consider taking the Y-DNA test or having a male member of your Bruton/Brewton family take the test!
