About us

There are currently 4 main project goals (Updated 6/2023)
1.     To bring together as many matches as possible, which will ultimately help with better understanding this
lineage and the shared connection between all members.
2.     To better understand the relationships between the various surnames matching this lineage and the
locations associated with each group.  Currently we have matches with both traditionally Irish and English
surnames.  At this time, it appears the English surname matches may be of a more recent point of origin.
In other words there appears to be less genetic distance among the English surname matches, indicating
a more recent shared ancestor among that group.  The Irish surname matches appear to have a much
greater genetic distance and thus appear to have a more distant shared common ancestor.  This may
point to an Irish origin for the group.
3.     To better understand the point of origin for this group, from within the British Isles.  Recently, ancient
remains were found and tested positive for the YDNA SNP A6127, found under L1066/CTS1202. The SNP
A6127 is shared by all members of this group. The SNP A6119 is also shared by all members of the group
and is estimated to have occurred approximately 300 - 400 CE/AD.
These remains were found in Longniddry Scotland and were radiocarbon dated to approximately 1400 BCE.
While this was an exciting discovery, it doesn't do much to help us determine where our shared ancestor
was during the time period of 750 - 1100 AD.
4.     To better understand what group or groups this lineage may have been associated with during the period
between 500 AD and 800 AD through present. We would like to determine if there is any connection to a
known population group within the British Isles, or possibly even outside of this area.  For instance, is there
any connection to a known ancient Irish family or tribal group or is there possibly a connection to a more
recent group such as the Vikings or Normans? Hopefully we will be able to determine what general
population group our cluster originated from. We are hopeful additional matches to the group and perhaps
the discovery of ancient remains that also A6127, A6119 or possibly one of our other more recent shared
SNPs will put the puzzle pieces together and provide the full picture.
