For Those New to DNA Testing
The Bogle DNA project includes the test results of men who have taken a Y-DNA test at Family Tree DNA. The test looks at the genetic pattern that is passed down from father to son via the Y-chromosome; therefore, only men can take this test. Women who have Bogle ancestry can still play a major role in this process by finding/encouraging their Bogle-surnamed brothers/fathers/cousins to take the painless, simple test.
A minimum of a 37-marker test from Family Tree DNA is recommended as a starting point for members of this project. From there, tests with additional markers or specific mutations can be ordered, depending on the research goals and budget of the family. Ideally, all Bogle men would take the Big Y test, which will allow for the most detailed comparisons.
