This list is a work in progress.  We have over 80 DNA-tested separate Arnold families, and many Arnold families are not represented by even one tester.  The codes 9F32-PHB etc are FamilySearch Family Tree profile IDs (PIDs).


DNA-tested Arnold families of known or probable English origin

  • 1585-1667 John Arnold (9F32-PHB) and Susanna (maiden surname unknown), Connecticut.
  • 1600-1674 Thomas Arnold (992D-66Y) and Susanna (maiden surname unknown), Massachusetts.
  • 1622-1699 Stephen Arnold (KN8L-T42) and Sarah Smith, Rhode Island and behind a brick wall 1795-1861 Charles Arnold (L2YJ-WQF) and Elizabeth Hierlihy, Rhode Island to Pennsylvania.
  • 1648-1726 Thomas Arnold (G98X-6KS) and Grace Doyle, Old Rappahannock County, Virginia.  FSFT has multiple errors and omissions.  In our Arnold surname project this is by far the largest DNA tested descendancy.
  • 1690-1781 James Arnold (PMF8-YQF) and Martha Atkinson, Mecklenburg County, Virginia.
  • 1700-1774  William Arnold (LB7P-91K) and Elizabeth Bostick, Cumberland County, Virginia.  We have some Big Y, but this is a huge family and needs more testers.
  • 1730–1784 John Arnold (G3XF-MJX), Craven County, North Carolina to Georgia.  Only daughter line descendants have tested.
  • 1745-1815 William Arnold (M2TX-G83) and Mary Pierce, Louisa County (?), Virginia and behind a brick wall 1798-1857 Zachariah Arnold (LYYF-ZQS) and 1st wife unknown and Cassander Gray, Laurens County, South Carolina.
  • 1753–1823 Michael George Arnold (29CN-CVT) and Juliana Rudisill, Pennsylvania to Tennessee.  Only daughter line descendants have tested;  seeking male line descendants.
  • 1768-1743 Samuel Arnold (9HB2-Z3M) and Sarah Webb, Massachusetts.  Need Big Y.
  • 1768-1808 James Arnold (KJPL-KZK) and Dorcas Taylor, Craven County, North Carolina.
  • 1769–? William Arnold (PM8K-FY1) and Mary Dobson, Nottinghamshire to Lancashire, England.  Their only known child is a daughter and a descendant in her line has tested;  we seek additional descendants.
  • 1867-1955 James Wade Arnold (LZZB-KZ5) and Laura Armstrong, Texas. Lineage on FSFT seems to be a little confused if this is an Arnold line.

  • 1852-1934 Charles Henry Louis Arnold (GHBF-KBX) and Bertha Wilkinson, Germany to Saskatchewan, Canada
  • 1702-1767 Johann George Arnold (LZ4V-8YR) and Anna Barth, Germany to Maryland. Big family - our co-admin Elizabeth Arnold finds this family all over the midwest, particularly Ohio.
