Background
Thank you for visiting! This page is being redone for 2012, and all members are asked to participate in content creation to be posted here. Given that many paper trails are not being submitted to me (Dee), as required for project membership, the premise of aligning paper trails with YDNA results is no longer feasible. Regrettably, I cannot accept members without a proven, researched paper trail, and phone number, and address. Many adoptees have written, but no, I cannot resolve your lineage--do hire someone!
The lab is now directly asking members for a myriad of info for their own purposes, to be shared across their own computer network......and this too has caused issues.
Call or write Dee directly, when you yourself compile sourced research to share, or post your public findings on Genforum or other message boards for Garrison, Poole, Gest, Todd, et al. surnames....any statement should have footnotes or square brackets with source identified, in any format, as a pointer/clue as to where such statement of fact originated-- please do not say "ancestry.com" or an undocumented worldtree as ancestry, et al, concocted many trees by squashing together unrelated families over the past ten years--many new researchers do not seem to realize this, and actually believe internet trees (undocumented from original, primary sources or published secondary sources naming sources) are valid. Internet trees are far worse than your grandmother's papers in a box in a female descendant's closet-- but only if they are not thrown away as refuse, by a misguided soul, after a family member dies; please provide for preservation and publication of your papers in your Will via codicil or tackle the matter during your lifetime.
Final Comment Period for POOLE of Gosport, England paper:
I am not sure why no one has commented on my POOLE working paper which I posted on the Goals subpage of this website, but here is the title, so please go to that tab (online, this website for now...)
"Posted 24 Jun 2011 by Dee
Which POOLE-POOL-POLE Y-DNA line claims South Carolina ship pilot, Thomas POOLE (1717/1754), born in Gosport, Hampshire, ENG?
A Working Paper in Progress by Dee Bardes, POOLE DNA Project, June 2011, Version 2.6- Comments sought. Thank you."
EXTRACTS OF EARLIER POSTINGS:
15 November 2011 Versions, extracts only:
Note that partial Data from 15 Nov 2010 Version is still posted here, but Dee has taken down her Working Paper on Gerrit Segers, born 1620, due to lack of input received back on such paper.
This is Updated Version, 15 November 2010...scroll down, please.
You have reached Dee's POOLE DNA Project & Allied Families, a surname project which I commenced in 2006, using the lab known as FamilyTreeDNA in Houston, Texas, USA (and labs at University of Arizona) for Y-DNA testing. Yes, I do descend from English immigrant, John POOLL (c1609/1667) which is why I let the VanPoole DNA Project Administrator twist my arm into starting this endeavor, but that story must wait. My red-headed, very pale-skinned brother resembles the bearded picture of world renown Cardinal Reginald POLE(1500-1558), who left no issue; unfortunately, Thomas F. Mayer, POLE's biographer from Augustana College, Rock Island, Illinois, USA oddly expressed no interest in Y-DNA or POLE's family heritage when I contacted him c2009. Ostensibly, about five hundred years later, POLE's family lineages are still being obscured -- Celt vs. Brit?
If you are looking for my colorful Y-DNA Results Matrix, POOLE DNA Project, please use the menu - newly relocated above as of 10 Nov 2010- to click on that link next; yes, my Y-DNA matrix has served as my main source of public communications--but the smaller MtDNA matrix (on a separate page/link) is fascinating as well. Yes, this is a serious Y-DNA research project so be sure to send your own original research findings to me often! Yes, I will credit you and your sources, so sources must be specified. Oddly, google did not seem to index the matrix info, which I write so it may be that my work has been hidden at certain search levels -- the info has taken me about eight years+ to research and compile the matrix data, correspond, chat and meet with participants/sponsors, et al, not including the years of effort by my 114 or so participants... Thanks to thousands of expended hours, thousands of spent dollars, pooling paper trail research, searching for and finding energized participants (and equally important gracious financial sponsors), I have made significant progress with sorting out the Y-DNA of the many POLE, POOLL, POOL, POOLE lines, mostly in North America; at this juncture, 2010, my POOL surname participants need more matching Y-DNA from across the pond. Celts & Brits, Aussies & Kiwis- please scrape for Y-DNA! And join up! Y-DNA from Germanic PUHL lines are also needed. Ich suche PFUHL, PUHL.
POLE/POOL/POOLL: All of my POOLE DNA Project mysteries are international, say 1300-1840. I need DNA and input from researchers and archives worldwide including repositories covering Barbados, i.e. who were the two unknown Thomas POOLs who left Wills in Barbados 1742 & 1749 [pg 119 & 120, in section “List of Wills recorded in Barbados down to the year 1800”, in book entitled “Caribbeana, Being Miscellaneous Papers Relating to the History, et al of the British West Indies”, by Vere Langford Oliver, Vol. V., London, Mitchell Hughes and Clarke, 1919; Repository: Allen Co Pub Lib, Ft Wayne, IN, Gc 972.97 C19 v.5 1918 (sic?)] Could several volunteers please pull archive data and snailmail or digitize it to me? Thanks in advance! Yes, years have been spent trying to sort out, for example, the entwined 1700's Thomas POOLs, given their links back to multiple lines, including my own John POOLL (died 1667), the wealthy miller of the area now known as Wakefield, Massachusetts. One known error in an otherwise well written Mass. journal article promulgates that my own Reading Mass.>Connecticut>Vermont/NY>Ohio branch did not exist due to the progenitor erroneously dying off young. Another error in a published compilation miscredits military service. Error correction may need to be our 2011 focus. Canadian help is needed to resolve the confusing mystery generated via southern Vermont tanner, Warren POOL's son, Mr. Lemmon POOLE (1808/1902) of Detroit, Michigan, and Lemmon's extant affidavit (he also wrote letters with ?Edward Richardson POOL, merchant of New Orleans) about which I posted many items on Footnote.com c2009, sadly, without any input back, being ever received by me (my footnote effort is now closed, prior to their merger with ancestry.com). Could a Canadian or English researcher please volunteer to help on the Battle of Louisburg, c1756 puzzle, English Army Surgeon named Thomas POOL(e)? Searching footnote.com will also raise the entwined 1742 Cuba matters, also unresolved (but new clues have been arduously unearthed). The lack of POLE, POOLE lineage researchers erects huge barriers to further progress. Has any UK POLE/POOL tested for Y-DNA whose results are not displayed here? Do write ASAP and tell me your ancient lineage and sources. Has another lab collected any English and Welsh POOLL/POLE/POOL Y-DNA? Please convert your results! Participants should write to me via the Join Request form which the lab forwards to my email. I am not an employee of the lab, nor do they fund any aspect of my project's efforts (this is supposed to be the same for all 3,000+ project directors). No discounts. No expense reimbursement, etc. Each project is supposed to function more like a crowd-sourcing, co-operative, where contributions of all kinds, are essential! What can you do to help? Yes, your support is needed! Please give!
PILESGROVE, SALEM, NJ (1742-c1850) & Castleton/Northfield, Richmond Co.,STATEN ISLAND NY (c1650-c1840) DNA NEEDED FOR PINK GROUP: One of my earlier projects, GARRISSON II DNA Project was spun-off in 2005, after several years of successes in the pioneering GARRISON I DNA Project, founded c2002-03 by William Pollard Garrison, now a retired policeman from Idaho & his hard-working DNA cousin, Mary Ellen Wojcik of near Columbus, Ohio (Jason Garrison descendant). Both "GARRISON I" and "GARRISSON II"(the french spelling) at FTDNA are now closed as separate projects (but some work is still being continued). The third project was known as GARRISON_M, with the M standing for Moses GARRISON, born c1734-37 discovered to be a son of Nehemiah GARRISON, Sr. (see Harold Garrison & Les Davies Garrison's research effort for this Virginia/Maryland early line). Next came "Garrisons' Compass" with, inter alia, industrious webmaster, Cecil Calder Garrason of Florida; this work post-dated, all of Calder's early (say 1960's-2010) documented research advanced via his writings and own website on his double-a, GARRASON line, among others. Further DNA spinoffs have been born as well. But, I digress... DNA for my own Allied Families research was about 2009 merged here into POOLE once the lab's software infrastructure became extended. So the elongated name is currently dubbed POOLE DNA Project & Allied Families - but POOLE DNA Project for short. Many sponsored kits, c2002-2010 are also consolidated here. Please sponsor kits & research!
