Leigh & Lee lines of Haplogroup I1

Project Surnames

Lea, Lee, Legh, Lei, leig, Leigh

Project Background

Leigh and Lee are common names in the United Kingdom and in places that have immigrants from the UK. However, not all Leigh and Lee lines are related to each other.

In doing genealogical research, it would be wise to spend your resources on the lines that have a higher probability of being connected to you. If a male member of your family has had his Y-DNA tested, his haplogroup, representing his direct-line ancestry, can be used to filter out people who have had their Y-DNA tested and are obviously not related to him.

This project focuses on the Y-DNA I1 haplogroup. This project is not involved with research using mtDNA.

This site reports on the DNA research activities of members of this project, but the details of their research are accessed through the Clearing House for Leigh & Lee Lines of the I-Haplogroup. Note that the Clearing House website is concerned with all subgroups of the I-haplogroup while this project involves only the I1 group. If the haplogroup of your family is not I1, check out the Lee and Leigh groups at FamilyTreeDNA by clicking the Back to Projects button at the top of this page.
