About us

To help genealogists use DNA as a tool in their research of the I1 haplogroup. If a male member of your family who is a direct descendant of your earliest known ancestor hasn't had his DNA tested, he will need to have that done in order for him to be a member of this group.

If the DNA of your family is of haplogroup I1, go to the Clearing House for Leigh & Lee Lines of the I-Haplogroup to see the DNA values of persons who have been tested by FamilyTreeDNA and Ancestry. Study the genealogical lines that are given there. If a line of interest to you was tested by Ancestry, you will need to contact the administrator of the Ancestry group that has that line to get a contact reference for that line. If a line of interest to you was tested by FamilyTreeDNA, the data shown was obtained via the ysearch website. Decide if additional searches via the ysearch website will be helpful to you. The ysearch website allows you to access the ysearch database for searches by last name and by genetic matches. All persons get free access to ysearch. You will see instructions at the Clearing House for using the ysearch website. It is a great tool from FamilyTreeDNA!

The ysearch database has the DNA values from many of the people who were tested by FamilyTreeDNA, but it doesn't have all of the values since some people don't have their DNA values transferred to ysearch. In addition to considering your use of ysearch, you'll probably want to contact the descendant who submitted DNA for testing. Results returned by ysearch include a link to email the person who is listed as the contact person for that test of DNA. If the results you're looking at came from Ancestry, you'll have to contact the group administrator for that group in Ancestry.
