Researching connections between Jamieson families of Australia and Scotland. I've not researched this family for many years because I seemed to have reached the limit of extant records. There appear to be no male line descendents of the last two Scottish-born ancestors (other than my line) so I'd be interested in finding relationship to other Jamieson relatives further back to Scotland

Migration route
James or John Jamieson born c1710 Stewarton,Ayrshire > James Jamieson b1747 Stewarton, Ayrshire > James Jamieson b1787 Stewarton, Ayrshire > Alexander Jamieson b1816 Stewarton, Ayrshire emigrated to South Australia 1854>William Jamieson b1861 Forreston, South Australia > Alfred Jamieson b1886 Forreston, South Australia > Keith Alfred Jamieson b1916 Saddleworth, South Australia > Alan Ross Jamieson b1949 Maylands, South Australia

My most distant relative James or John Jamieson born c1710 Stewarton,Ayrshire

My aims To connect with any other descendants in Scotland or elsewhere.

Researching connections between the Jamesons of New Hampshire and to establish a connection to Ireland, Scotland and/or anywhere else

Most distant relative Hugh Jameson (1713-1790) of Coleraine, County Londonderry, in Ulster, Ireland. Married (1) Christine Whitehead, 8 children, (2) Jane McHenry (Barr), 6 children. Emigrated to New England in 1746, settling in New Hampshire.

Aims and Goals To establish a concrete DNA connection with other Jamesons assumed to be the children of Hugh and his wives Christine or Jane, as well as other Jamesons of New Hampshire, thought to be siblings. Also, to establish connections with other Jamesons living then and/or now in Ireland, Scotland and/or anywhere else.

Researching connections of Jamesons in Coleraine, Londonderry who moved to Scotland and then to New South Wales, Australia

Most distant relative James Jamieson (Jameson, Jamison)  was born at Camus Parish of Macosquin near Coleraine Londonderry May 6 1839. He moved to with his wife Elizabeth Hinds (Hynds, Hynes) in about 1863  and then to Sydney Australia in 1885. James died Feb 20 1915 at Petersham New South . He married Elizabeth Hinds Nov 17 1862 and the marriage is Registered at Coleraine.

His parents according to his Death Record were John Jamieson and Esther Lamont.

The man I believe to be his father John Jamieson (c1814 -1877) was a farmer in the area and died May 22 1877 after drowning in the near Camus. I have not been able to fully confirm this relationship yet. I know that James mother Esther Lamont (c1813 - 1880) died in Jul 30 1880 while living with her son James.

Aims. From my research I believe this family lived in and around the Camus and Gills Townlands when they were in . There may also be a connection with the Ballylaggan Reformed Presbyterian Church.

James Jamieson's wife Elizabeth Hinds was born in ? around 1842 and died in Sydney NSW Sep 22 1923. Her parents were James Hinds  and Catherine Beverlin (Beverland).

Researching connections between Jamieson families of North East Scotland

Migration route
? - c1750,Bellie,Morayshire,Sct.; 1810>Rathven,Banffshire,Sct.; 1903>Kent,Eng.; 1906> Suffolk,Eng.; 1910>Hertfordshire,Eng.>

My most distant relative George Jamieson who married Margaret Ritchie probably in Bellie, Morayshire, Sct had 7 children with the first b.1779. So marriage assumed to be c.1779. Looking for suitable b. for a George in Bellie finds a possible b.1751 to Alexander Jamison m. Anne Smith who were in Bellie during this period. I can find only the one child for them. Which doesn't help. Although all the records refer to Bellie, the parish, the families were living in Bogmoor which was a small village/hamlet.

My theory If Alexander is Georges father then I can potentionally add 2 more generations using Old Parish Records. Alexander's father is possibly George Jamison m. Marjorie Gatherer. Their 6 children were all baptised in Bellie. There is another Jamieson family living in Bellie at this time who I think will be this George's brother. William m. Isobell Mortimer had 7 Children. My research so far has drawn a blank at finding any living male descendant who could provide me with a Y-DNA sample for these other lines.

My aims So ideally I need an exact/close match of my DNA with a descendant of George m. Marjorie Gatherer and his potential brother William m. Isobell Mortimer. This will prove the connection between the 2 trees. Then with a combination of Y-DNA and the available records Alexander (m.to Anne Smith) will be the proven father of George.

Researching Jamisons of Lancaster Co., PA, connections to Alloa Scotland and Northern Ireland. Proving connection to Green B Jameson of the Alamo

Most distant relative The most distant proven relative is James Jamison of Lancaster Co., PA. James is sometimes referred to as Sir John James Jamison. It is said that he is the son of Alexander Jameson. Which Alexander I am not positive. Searching I find that an Alexander Jameson m. Marion Anderson could be a good fit, but this is not proven. If so, then this Alexander Jameson’s father is also Alexander Jameson (b.c. 1590) m. Elizabeth “Bessie” Chrystie, of Alloa, Clackmannan, Scotland. James Jameson/Jamison of Lancaster Co., PA was born c. 1660s-1670s in Scotland, according to Scott Jameson’s “Jameson Perspective”. James died in 1743 in Reading, Berks Co., PA. He was married to Janet _______. Most say her name was Janet Keen, but some say that his son John’s 2nd wife was named Janet Keen. The older Janet was still living at the time of h+r husband James’ death in 1743. Their children were born in Northern Ireland. Children according to the “Jameson Perspective” are John (1693-1751, m. 1. Agness Allison? 2. Janet Keen); Samuel (b.c. 1695); William (1697-1753, m. Sarah Collins?); Adam (b.c. 1700); Sarah (b.c. 1703, m. Mr. Wilson); Jane (b.c. 1705, m. Mr. Gibson); Martha (b.c. 1708, m. Mr. Allison); James (b.c. 1712). It is said that Mr. Jamison emigrated 1713 from the north of Ireland and landed in Philadelphia. His family were descendants of the Stewarts in Argyleshire, Scotland. On the voyage over the ship was held up by Blackbeard the Pirate and taken was the coat-of-arms personally given him by King William III. Mr. Jamison, originally spelt Jamieson, was about 50 years old at the time of his removal to the colonies. Tradition states he was the uncle of Henry Jamison, but so far this has been unsubstantiated. (taken from “The Jameson Perspective”). I descend from James and Janet Jamison’s son, William Jamison/Jameson b. 1697 d. 1753 in Augusta (Rockbridge) Co., VA. There is an Alexander Jamison of York Co., PA, b.c. 1625 (thought to be Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland) that immigrated to the American colonies. This Alexander had a son named James b.c. 1650, who prior to immigrating to the American colonies in about 1700 (and settling in York Co.), lived in Galway, Ireland. This James is said to have had two sons named John and Robert. This son John married and had children: Alexander, Thomas, John, Samuel and Jane. Another theory on that family tree from Scott Jameson’s Jameson Perspective shows Alexander Jamison b.c. 1625 with sons Robert (b. 1682, m. Sarah Opdyke) and John (b. 1680, m. Rachel Opdyke). This John and Rachel’s children are said to be: James, Alexander, Thomas, John, David and Jane. Their son John is said to have married 1. Margaret White, 2. Mary Wilkinson. This is where much confusion comes in. For many trees that I have seen people submit about my William Jameson, it appears that they include this John Jameson (m. Margaret White) as Sir John James Jameson, the father of my William and that the James m. Janet Keen is this Sir John James Jameson’s father. Very confusing. I think that there must be a family relationship between James Jameson of Lancaster Co., PA and Alexander of York Co., PA, but what is it? Even though it is said that my James Jameson received a Coat of Arms from King William III (I assume for services during the Battle of the Boyne), futher reading shows that even William III had many Scots in his service during this battle. Some took sides according to monarchies (many Scots believing that James II should not be deposed as the King of Great Britain because of his Catholicism, that he should retain his title because he inherited his crown through succession), while other Scots that had immigrated to Ireland during the plantation period and were mainly Protestant, were more apt to side with William over religious reasoning. My Jamesons appear to have been Presbyterians/Protestants and migrated from Scotland to Ireland in about 1660, and must’ve fallen on the side with William III. A tree in which I was also given shows the following: Alexander Jameson, migrated 1660 to Ireland from Scotland. Son was James Jameson b. 1650 Glasgow, Scotland, d. Jan. 17, 1719/720 in Essex, Middlesex Co., VA (m. Margaret White). James and Margaret’s children: David (m. Mildred Smith), Capt. Thomas (d. 1767 Orange Co., VA), James (b. Essex, VA d. Dec. 6, 1766 Essex, VA, m. Mary Gaines), Sir John James (b. 1680 Galway, Ireland d. 1736 York Co., PA, m. Janet Keen), Robert (b. 1682 Galway, Ire d. Bucks Co., PA). Children of Sir John James Jameson & Janet Keen: Samuel, Adam, Sarah, Jane, Martha, Robert, Thomas (b. Nov. 7, 1732 York Co., PA), William (b. 1697 Ulster, Ireland d. March 21, 1753 Augusta Co., VA.). This is my William Jameson (1697-1753).

Aims and Goals So as you can see the trees above are all very confusing. I would like to get to the bottom of these Jamesons and truly find out how they all relate. Is James Jameson of Lancaster Co., PA truly a separate James from Sir John James Jameson? If so, are they cousins? How do they relate? Is James Jamison of Lancaster Co., PA related to Alexander Jameson in York Co., PA? My brother has matched on the 37 marker test within about 24 generations with a genetic distance of 4 to William Ellis Jamison, Jr. and to Dale Odell Jamison, which are both of the Jameson line coming out of Leith, Scotland. Much of this family immigrated to the New England area of the US. My brother has also just recently matched on the 67 marker test with a genetic distance of 5 to Daniel S. Jameyson who says his line came from Samuel H. Jameyson b. 1754. His Jameyson family seems to have settled in Canada. We more than likely have a common ancestor within the last 24 or so generations too. I would like to find out how my line would tie into these two lines and how far back? If any others descending from James Jameson of Lancaster Co., PA would take a DNA test, that would be great! I also would like for anyone relating to the William & Jane Jameson line of Barren Co., KY to test. Their daughter Gillian S. “Kitty” Jameson married my 3rd great grandpa’s brother, William M. Jameson in 1819 in Barren Co., KY. Family says they were cousins to one another. This Gillian was the sister of Green B. Jameson that died at the Alamo. How closely are we cousins to this line? Gillian’s father was William (m. Jane) Jameson. This William’s father was John Jameson of Fayette Co., KY (d.c. 1801). This John’s father was Robert of Louisa Co., VA. Who was this Robert’s father? I believe that he must’ve been a son of William & Sarah (Collins?) Jameson of Augusta Co., VA. If so, then Gillian would be William & Sarah’s GG Granddaughter, and her husband William M. Jameson (1786-1831) would be William & Sarah’s Great Grandson. William M. Jameson was the son of Robert & Isabelle (Mahan) Jameson. Robert was the son of George & (either 1st wife, name unknown) or Eleanor (Mitchell) Jameson. George was the son of William & Sarah (Collins) Jameson. My line: 1] James Jamison (m. Janet Keen; Ireland>Lancaster Co., PA) 2] William Jameson (m. Sarah Collins?; Ulster, Ire>PA>Augusta/Rockbridge Co., VA) 3] George Jameson (m.1. ? m. 2. Eleanor Mitchell; PA>Augusta Co., VA>Harrison Co., KY) 4] Maj. Robert Jameson (m. Isabelle Mahan; Augusta Co., VA>Fayette/Lincoln/Madison Co., KY>Lincoln/Ralls Co., MO) 5] George W. Jameson (m. Mary Ida Clay; Madison/Fayette Co., KY>Lincoln Co., MO) 6] Allen Clay “Clay” Jameson/Jamerson (m.1. Cyntha Ware m.2. Mary Ann McGuire m.3. Mary A. ______; KY>Lincoln Co., MO>Scott Co., Ark.) 7] Willis Franklin Jameson/Jamerson (m. Flora Ann Pierce; Lincoln Co., MO>Scott Co., Ark.>Lincoln Co., MO) 8] Ira Russell Jamerson (m. Rebecca May Cluny; Lincoln Co./St. Louis City, MO) 9] Jack Russell Jamerson(m.1.Virginia Shaw m.2.Joan m. Kellick; Lincoln Co./St.Louis City & Co., MO) 10] Patricia (Jamerson) Archer.
