What we need are Y-DNA comparisons with more Layton group members, especially those male Laytons who can trace their ancestry back to Norfolk, but also other Layton branches with UK origins outside the county. By building up a database of Layton clans originating in different parts of Britain it should be possible to help overseas families to locate the most likely regions of origin of their emigrant ancestors, thereby facilitating further documentary research.
