DUNSWORTH - APRIL 2015 AFTER BIGY TEST RESULTS  FOR DUNSWORTH KIT 230012.

Below I have copied the R1b U106 SNP subgroups that surround the DUNGWORTH/DUNSWORTH kits. In the subgroup title you will see the SNP branch progression from older SNPs to younger BIGY SNPs. You will see SNPs in the subgroups that match and then to the right you will see where they branch off from each other to the younger SNP branches.

In the very early pre-surname era in Europe, and before the DUNGWORTH/DUNSWORTH ancestor arrived in York, England and assumed the surname of DUNGWORTH for the town of Dungwroth, the closest match is to the HAHN and TRAPHAGEN kits in Germany as they all share the FGC15317 SNP.  One GLOVER kit also has that SNP, but he only traces his line in the USA. There is also a LOWNDES kit, but it only mentions “England.”

You can also see where some of the earlier shared SNPs show kits from Italy through Germany to Poland, so that might be a very, very early migration path for U106>>>CTS2509.

If I was in Continental Europe for a visit, I would head to the two areas in Germany that are listed below. Now the word of caution of course is that these kits trace their ancestors to the 1600s and 1700s not earlier, but few families can go back much further. So, for now I think this general region can be looked upon by our DUNGWORTH/DUNSWORTH line as a clue to an early migration point prior to England.

Searches that I am doing on Gummer, Germany show it to be in near Wunstorf, west of Hanover.

"Gummer in the region of Lower Saxony is a town in Germany - some 163 mi (or 263 km) West of Berlin, the country's capital city."

Maspe is also in Lippe Germany and appears to be south/west of Gummer and Hanover.  Mapquest says those two towns are about 51 miles apart and the village of Trophagen is about 14 miles from Maspe.

1. DUNN Haplogroup R1b U106>Z344>FGC29405 - This group includes the family of James Barney Dunn born 1808 in Montgomery Co. North Carolina.  He migrated to Henderson Co. Tennessee.  He and his family left TN during the Civil War because James Barney Dunn served with the Union army - his wife and younger children traveled to Johnson Co. IL during the war and purchased land north of Cypress. Early DUNNs from this family are buried in the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery near Cypress very near to their original home.

This R1b U106 DUNN group also includes the family of Shadrack Dunn who married Mary Pankey in Gallatin, Sumner Co. Tennessee in 1805. Shadrack arrived in southern Illinois in the early 1800s. His family is buried in the Shiloah Cemetery south of Vienna.

2. DUNN Haplogroup R1b M222>BY198 - This group includes the descendants of Azariah Dunn who arrived at "Fort Nashboro" (later Nashville, TN) in the 1700s. Azariah Dunn then settled near present day Springfield, Robertson Co. Tennessee prior to 1796.  Descendants of Azariah Dunn still in that area.  Two descendants of Azariah migrated to Johnson Co. IL in the 1830s.  They were brothers Priulia and Henry Sherrod DUNN.  The Azariah Dunn family is a YDNA and SNP match to other kits that claim Hugh Dunn born 1640 as their ancestor. Hugh Dunn resided in Piscataway township, Middlesex Co. New Jersey.

NOTE - Any and all statements in books or genealogies indicating that Azariah Dunn (R1b M222>BY198) is the father of James Barney Dunn (R1b U106>Z344) or that these two Dunn lines are the same family are factual errors.

CIVIL WAR -

James Barney Dunn R1b U106 Z344 and Jesse H. Lowry I1 L22 were both from west Tennessee and served for the Union in the 7th Tennessee Cavalry USA.

MITOCHONDRIAL DNA
Mitochondrial DNA is passed from mother to daughter on down the generations with little change. Mitochondrial DNA is also passed from mother to son, but the son cannot pass the mitochondrial DNA to his children.

Two sons of James Barney DUNN born 1808 in Montgomery Co NC (Y-DNA haplogroup R1b U106>Z344 with a likely migration point in England) married sisters with the surname of WHITE. The parents of the WHITE sisters were Maria WILLIAMS born Jan. 1834 and Hosea WHITE.  They are buried in Cypress, Johnson Co. IL.  The parents of Maria WILLIAMS have not been discovered.  Mitochondrial DNA testing of the descendants of the direct female line of these WHITE sisters identified their mitochondrial DNA as U6a1a.  Each daughter of these WHITE sisters will also have U6a1a as their mitochondrial haplogroup and pass it on to their daughters. Proof of this mtDNA haplogroup for the WHITE sisters was determined by one direct female line through surnames DUNN YDNA R1b U106>Z344>JONES YDNA?>LOWRY I1 L22. The DUNN, JONES and LOWRY families all resided in Johnson Co. IL.

A new research paper on U6 was released in May 2014. Below is a comment and link provided by Bernard Secher, volunteer administrator of the U6 mitochondrial DNA project.

"After a very very long process, the new U6 paper in collaboration with the La Laguna university in Spain, has been finally accepted. It will be published soon in the scientific journal: BMC Evolutionary Biology. The title of the paper is: The history of the North African mitochondrial DNA haplogroup U6 gene flow into the African, Eurasian and American continents.

The paper is now published and is available here:
