About us

3/14/2012  - Six direct male descendants of Peter Delp/Delph (b. ca 1755, d. bef 11 Dec 1840 in Grayson Co., VA) have participated in the project and have closely matched each other.  This confirms that their DNA is that of their common male ancestor Peter Delp(h), progenitor of the Grayson Co., VA Delp(h) family.  In addition, a German gentleman who descends from Johann Wilhelm Delp (b 4 Feb 1612 Eberstadt,Germany), the progenitor of the Delp family of Germany has participated in the project and matches the Grayson Co., VA Delps.  This confirms that the Grayson Co. Delps descend from Johann Wilhelm Delp as well.

Direct male descendants of other Delp/Delph families (men possessing the surname Delp or Delph) such as the Conrad Delp family of Culpeper/Madison Co., VA, the Johann George Delp family of Montgomery Co., PA, and the Johann Nicholas Delp family of Berk Co., PA are needed to confirm that they also descend from Johann Wilhelm Delp of Eberstadt, Germany.  The Delph family name also exists in England. English Delphs are also needed for the project.

If you are a man with the surname Delp, Delph, or another variation of the name, please join our study! If you aren't a male Delp/Delph, but know of one, please encourage them to participate!

27 Feb 2006 - Inital Y-DNA results of the second study participant, a descendant of Peter Delp/Delph (b. ca 1755, d. bef 11 Dec 1840 in Grayson Co., VA) through his son Daniel (b. ca 1776 in NC, d. 1860 in Hawkins Co., TN), are in and he matches the descendant of Peter's son John for 12 out of 12 markers. This match indicates that their's is the Y-DNA of their common male ancestor Peter Delp(h), the progenitor of the Grayson Co., VA Delp/Delph family.
______________

27 Jan 2006 - The results for the first study participant have been posted under the "Y Results" tab. This gentleman is a descendant of Peter Delp/Delph (b. ca 1755, d. bef 11 Dec 1840 in Grayson Co., VA) through Peter's son John (b. ca 1777 in NC). His Y-DNA probably belongs to Haplogroup I, which is mainly found in northwestern Europe, central Europe, and the British Isles. Haplogroup I is most common in locales historically associated with "Viking" populations.
