For many years, there have been queries as to where the Bracegirdle family originated.
Most seem to have come from Cheshire, and spread out over time to surrounding shires and the world.
There have been many variations of the name, but Bracegirdle appears to be the one which is most accepted in the last two hundred years. Brassgirdle, Brigerdler (William Brigerdler, dated 1281) John Brachgyrdyll in the Register of Oxford 1544)
Roger Brachegirdle, and the most famous, actress Anne Bracegirdle. One Bracegirdle is reputed to have baptised William Shakespeare.
