About us
To bring together known and unknown Zastko family members, mutually share family history, stories, pictures and to deepen an understanding of our reportedly rare and ancient Y-DNA.
Only males have Y-chromosomes, therefore only a male ZASTKO (or known or suspected variant) can participate. If you are female, you can have a male ZASTKO (or variant) relative submit a Y-DNA sample for your line. To insure a meaningful participation, testees will be required to share their direct male line ancestry back to the earliest known ZASTKO (or variant) as a pedigree tree.
While related Zastko family members are currently known to reside in France, Italy, Slovakia and throughout the United States of America. The Zastko surname possibily originated in Germany or perhaps Austria.
As far back as at least the mid 1700's, Zastkos lived in what is today Slovenská Ves a village and municipality in Kežmarok District in the Prešov Region of north eastern Slovakia at the foot of the Carpathian Mountains, as well as surrounding villages/towns where Zastkos live to this day. Deep DNA analysis indicates an ancient and rare YDNA lineage with possible Asian origins.
