We are interested in anyone with the Yeomans surname or one of its variants, as well as anyone who descends from ancestors with the Yeomans surname or one of its variants. Known variants of the surname include Yeamans, Yeaman, Youman, Youmans, and others. Our goal is to determine which Yeomans families are related and how they are connected. Most of our progress in researching and reconstructing the early Yeomans families is being made through Y-DNA testing of males who either have the Yeomans surname or are direct patrilineal descendants of Yeomans ancestors, regardless of where they live in the world. If you are such a male, please join our project and consider taking a Y-DNA test. We also encourage you to take the Family Finder (autosomal DNA) test or transfer your autosomal DNA results from another testing company. We recognize that many people descend from Yeomans families but do not have Yeomans Y-DNA to contribute to our research. This may be because they are female or because they are not a direct patrilineal descendant of a Yeomans ancestor. (All of our volunteer administrators currently fall into this category.) If this describes you, we still invite you to join our project by purchasing FamilyTreeDNA's Family Finder test or transferring your results from another testing company. Our long-term vision is for Y-DNA to be used to reconstruct the early Yeomans families. Individuals with Yeomans ancestry who do not have Yeomans Y-DNA can then use autosomal DNA to establish their connection to their nearest Y-DNA match and, by extension, provide evidence for their descent from their Yeomans ancestors. I like to think of each Yeomans family as a giant family tree. The most recent common ancestor is the trunk, the Y-DNA participants form the primary branches, and the autosomal-only participants form the secondary branches and, ultimately, the leaves. Together, these participants allow us to reconstruct the entire tree and understand how the different Yeomans families are connected.
