About us
The Yardley Surname DNA Project was created in 2007 at familytreedna.com. Joining the DNA project provides an opportunity to verify which Yardley branch you belong to and to confirm suppositions of conventional research methods.
The goals of the project include, among others:
1) Help participants solve longstanding genealogical questions,
2) Find new connections with other Yardleys,
3) Determine which particular Yardley lines are closely related and which are not, and
4) To assist others to determine their ancestral origins.
Considering the amount of time and expense that most genealogists have devoted to their research, using DNA to confirm distant relationships can be considered an economic tool.
If you want to help others purchase a Y DNA test, you can donate to the project. The administrator will apply your donation to someone’s test who otherwise could not afford to do the test with the belief that the person's test could add to our knowledge.
To be automatically enrolled in the Yardley DNA project please order your kit using the following link: https://www.familytreedna.com/group-join.aspx?Group=Yardley
Usually, the more markers that are tested, the more meaningful the results. The Big Y’s 700 markers may help you break through a brick wall. The Big Y takes your birth year into consideration to show when DNA mutations occurred. Mutations help to show lineage. Of course the more Big Y test takers we have of the same lineage, the more accurate the results.
Should you want to prepare for researching the female line when more tools become available, the mtFull sequence is what you want. The mtFull sequence and Big Y is available at familytreedna as a package.
Note: It would be misleading if I did not remind all participants that there is a chance that some of our ancestors were not actually descendants of Yardleys, either through adoption or infidelity. These variations may be realized as we complete additional DNA testing.
