Autosomal DNA project for Whitebread, Whitbread and variant names

About us

Welcome to the Whitebread and Whitbread autosomal DNA Project (also including the name Wheatbread and other related names). The Whit(e)bread autosomal DNA Project is open to anyone interested in discovering more about the relationships and origins of the various families bearing the name. Participating is an opportunity to uncover information not provided by the paper records, which may help with your research of your family tree. The results of the tests may help you identify which family tree you belong to.

If you already know which family tree you belong to, participating in the project will help to define the characteristic DNA for that line. For more information on the project goals in detail, please go to the 'Goals' tab. For the most recent news, please go to the 'News' tab. For autosomal DNA no results are shown on the project pages, only on your personal pages. This DNA project was set up mainly for me to know who has autosomal DNA results which can be used to help validate Whit(e)bread family trees. Hopefully FTDNA will provide more tools in the future to help manage such data at the project level. This is an extension to the existing One-Name Study for Whitebread, Whitbread and Wheatbread which is registered with the Guild of One-Name Studies. You can learn more about this research by visiting my one-name study profile page.

For further information on FamilyFinder (autosomal) DNA, read the tutorials on the Family Finder information pages.

The autosomal DNA (FamilyFinder) test can be taken by any male or female and he/she does not have to bear the Whit(e)bread name. Members of this group should however have a known or predicted link to one of the Whit(e)bread families.

An autosomal DNA test performed at ancestry.com can be imported into Family Tree DNA.

To order your test kit, please click on the "JOIN REQUEST" link above. Tests ordered through this project are charged at the special group rate which provides a substantial saving on the standard FTDNA price. If you have already had your DNA tested with Family Tree DNA individually or as part of another project you are welcome to join this project too. There is no extra charge for joining multiple projects. Simply click on the "JOIN REQUEST" link above, enter your kit number and password and your results will automatically be included in this project as well.

If you would like to participate, but are unable to afford the cost of a test, please get in touch, as money may be available to pay for your test. This may be dependent on whether you can provide sufficient information about your ancestry for your results to be useful to the project. A General Fund has been established in order to accept donations to assist with the cost of DNA testing of males who would otherwise be unable to afford the cost of participation in the project. The fund is maintained independently by the testing company. Donations can be accepted in any currency via credit card. To make a donation, please click on the link below.
