Recent advances in DNA testing have opened up important new ways to enhance genealogical research. It is now economically feasible to validate genealogical work that has been done using traditional methods by testing whether two males with the same surname share the same paternal ancestor by comparing their DNA. Since historical records for the earliest of the Weymouth emigrants leaving England are weak, DNA studies may be the only way to confirm these ancestors.
