About us

The Voikhansky family is extremely large due to the multiple marriages of Ber (Beryl) Berka Voikhansky/Vaikhansky (b. 1824) and his son Solomon (b. 1824).  Each were married several times (concurrently) and had children under various surnames, in a number of geographical locations. From these two men came as many as 150children.

The family lived in Belarus during the 1800’s, but were fortunate to have thriving businesses that brought them far from Belarus, into Romania, Poland, Ukraine and other areas to the west.  The primary source of Voikhansky family income was from horse breeding and the tanning trade.

Stories of Solomon indicate that he traveled widely, started having children very young, supported his children in their education, and may have been seen as nobility in Poland.  Heand his children had red hair.  The family tree also shows relationships to many key figures involved in the origins and history of Israel.

Genetically speaking, it is not uncommon for Voikhansky descendants to show some degree of Asian origin and features.  Historical research and theories connect the family to groups including the Kalmyks, Khazars, Mongolians and Tatars.

Family trees and DNA for the extended Voikhansky family can be found on all major genealogy sites.   Uploading raw DNA data to Gedmatch is recommended.

Males in the direct Voikhansky line are believed to be from Y haplogroup Y-LM20 or L-M349.
