About us
1. Eliminate or confirm the relationship of Varnes, Varns, Varn, Wern, Werntz, and spelling variant individuals to their early American: South Carolina, Florida, Pennsylvania, etc., lines, or to add new lines, and to link all of these lines to their European, primarily German, counterparts.
2. Develop a knowledge sharing repository that brings about a deeper understanding of our direct-line paternal ancestors.
3. Develop a database that combines Y-STR and Y-SNP DNA results with traditional genealogy research.
4. Strengthen weak paper trails and avoid pursuing false connections.
5. Find the various genetic origins for the nave ‘Varnes’.
6. Utilize the fast developing science of genealogical Y-SNP testing to confirm genetic relationships. Initially ‘Varnes’ participants are falling primarily into the I1a2a1a or I-Z140 haplogroup.
To accomplish these goals, we are looking for agreeing male ‘Varn’ and variant spelling participants to test and join the project.
Family Tree DNA offers a DISCOUNT to individuals who join our Project and order their kit at the same time. The Project Administrators recommend a minimum of 37 markers to firmly establishkinship and distinguish between family lines. If your budget allows, the 67marker test is better for distinguishing your ‘Varnes’ line from others who have also completed the 67 marker test. Only males carry the Y-chromosome, so females wishing to confirm their Varn/Varnes lineage must have a brother, father or other male Varn surnamed relative participate on their behalf.
This project is administered by Earl L Varnes and assisted by David R Moore as volunteers.
