Van Etten is a Dutch toponymic surname which probably associates our like-named ancestors with the municipality of Etten in the Netherlands. It is doubtful that all Van Etten lines trace to one individual common ancestor. Many unrelated families took the Van Etten name. There is a vast array of variant spellings and mutations of this surname. Our list only includes some of them. This Y-DNA focused surname project is working to establish y-chromosome markers for all Van Etten lines worldwide, and to perhaps find surprising relationships between some of these Van Etten lines.
