About us
Mission: The Van Camp (en) surname project was initiated to validate and expand existing genealogical research by: proving or disproving theories about our ancestors and relatives, identifying unknown relatives, and developing leads that will direct further genealogical research.
General Objectives The initial objective for the project is to determine the Y chromosome and Mitochondrial DNA profiles from a number of Van Camp (en) descendents in order to:
A. Investigate the connection of the various participant families to Garret Jansen Van Campen, a 1658 immigrant militiaman in New Netherlands.
B. Confirm the connection between Van Camp, Van Campen, Van Kampen and some Camp and DeCamp families.
C. Determine the American Van Camp(en) family connection to European VanCampen families, especially those in the Netherlands and Belgium.
D. Identify the connection of the NJ/Iowa Van Camps to their New York and New Jersey Van Campen ancestors.
E. Determine the Most Recent Common Ancestor of the various participants in the project.

Specific Objectives These are the Project Administrator’s personal objectives but the study will not be limited to these and additional objectives may be added as project members make them known.
A. Identifying whether Kiple(aka Kople) VC was related to Isaac VCen (d1809), Guisbert VCen, Isaac or John VCen sons of Guisbert VCen.
B. Elucidating the ancestry of Ann Emmons, who married Kiple (aka Kople) Van Camp in 1811 in Hunterdon Co. NJ.
C. Confirming the parentage of Kiple William Van Camp who was born in NJ in 1822 the year his father died.
D. Defining Kiple William Van Camp’s connection to Garret Jansen Van Campen, 17th century immigrant to New Netherlands.
E. Determining if Kiple William Van Camp is related to Jacob Kyple 18th century resident of Kingwood township, Hunterdon County, NJ.
F. Discovering the ancestors of Ann Maria Vass Little, who married Kiple William Van Camp in 1849 in Stillwater, Sussex Co. NJ.
G. Clarifying whether Kiple William Van Camp’s mother-in-law, Katherine, had a maiden name of Vass or Voss.
H. Determining which Benjamin Little Katherine Vass/Voss married.
