About us

Overview DNA technology has evolved into a useful, practical and cost effective tool for genealogical research. Analyzing DNA on the man’s Y chromosome and in the mitochondria in the woman’s egg has been used to confirm or disprove a common ancestor between individuals; suggest a time frame back to that ancestor, confirm parentage, identify likely historical geographic origin of the individual’s family and determine from which of the 7 genetic daughters of Eve the individual descended.

Genealogists are using DNA sequencing technology to confirm their family tree, solve insurmountable brick walls in their genealogical research, clarify ancestral lore, determine a direction for further research and identify unknown relatives.

DNA sampling involves obtaining a kit from the lab and obtaining simple cheek swabs. A number of test options are available to help the genealogist. We have chosen Family Tree DNA to conduct our tests and administer our Surname Project. We chose them because they are Genealogy oriented, have reasonable prices and have a good reputation with genealogists. Please visit their Website listed below for detailed information.

In general the larger the number of sites tested on the DNA the greater the accuracy of finding a common ancestor and the smaller the number of past generations that the individuals shared that ancestor. As might be expected the cost increases as the number of sites tested increases. However, once the lab has your DNA they keep it for 25 years and additional tests can be added to the same sample in the future if more information is desired. Family Tree DNA gives group discount rates for people enrolling in a DNA Surname Project such as ours. Their Website lists the prices and advantages of each of the test options.
