About us

A Y-DNA study for the VAN BUSKIRK surname can be joined by going to: http://www.familytreedna.com/surname.asp

The VanBuskirk descendants are fortunate in that their beginnings can be traced back to Laurens Andriessen born about 1625 in Schleswig, Holstein, Denmark. He came to New Amsterdam (to become New York City) in about 1655.
It appears that this Laurens Andriessen invented for himself the new surname VanBuskirk or similar. The family, since that time, has developed and grown throughout North America, some dropping the "Van" in their surname.
The Canadian side had its beginning c 1784 with the VanBuskirk Loyalists moving to Canada. This study should be of interest to all Van Buskirks and will allow many to confirm or advance their Van Buskirk history.
The above link provides information for joining the study and a significant discount for participants.
At this point we have several VanBuskirk males who have taken the Big-Y-700 test and have allowed us to discover several distinguishable haplogroup branches created within the male descendants of the progenitor Laurens Andriessen.
This means that any VanBuskirk male who takes the Big-Y-700 test will likely be able to find in which VanBuskirk haplogroup branch he resides.
If you are not a VanBuskirk male but descend from a VanBuskirk male it may still be possible to determine in which VanBuskirk branch you reside using targeted DNA testing of the right type.  Contact the VanBuskirk group admin below for help!

A Y-DNA study is not invasive (a simple mouth swab) and uses a portion of the Y-DNA that does not code for any known information: i.e. it does not give information on you that can be used for anything but genealogy.
