About us

This project has grown and become rich in information about our Union County ancestors. As a geographical site with an original goal of tracing mtDNA results, its scope is limited; however, it has become a resource for a variety of participants with different goals, including y-DNA and autosomal DNA testing. It is evident from reports that have been coming through that many members are finding important matches in the FTDNA databases.

With regard to my Amanda Millwood question, a number of members match my mtDNA (H5g), and to date, all of them have had a maternal line that passed through upstate South Carolina with likely roots in colonial Virginia, implying a common maternal ancestor for all of us among the early settlers of that province. One match terminates in another female ancestor of mine in Union County, the grandmother of the father of Amanda Millwood's children, which leads me to believe that this woman and Amanda were closely related through their mothers; however, I don't have enough evidence right now to determine exactly what their relationship was. The results are fascinating even though the brick wall hasn't been broken down yet. I am very interested in Sprouse and Fowler families of Union County, SC.

If other members would like to share stories about their matches, please send them along to me, and I will be happy to post them here.
