It appears that there may have been two or three genetically distinct Trent lines in colonial Virginia.


The 12 marker test made by a descendant of Thomas A. Trent, b. Chariton Co., MO, probable grandson of Sgt. Thomas and Elizabeth (Edwards) Trent, is an exact match with a descendant of Alexander and Frances (Archer) Trent, through their son, Alexander Trent, b. 1729.



The 12 marker test made by a descendant of James Trent of Somerset County, Pennsylvania - Kit 100255 - shows no match with any of the Trent lines of colonial Virgina.



One of our original goals was to determine if any family relationship existed between Capt. Lawrance Trant of King William Co., VA and the early Trents of Henrico/Chesterfield/Campbell Co., VA. The 12 marker test by a descendant of Lawrence Trant - Kit 42606 - indicates no such relationship.



Male descendants of Dr. John Trent of Charleston/Camden SC are being sought for this study, as are male descendants of Peterfield and Angelica (Wilkinson) Trent of Richmond, Virginia. Male descendants of Henry Trent, who died in 1827 in Miller Co., Arkansas, are also sought. Some descendants of this Henry Trent include Daniel I. Trent and Ezra O. Trent, of Texas, Clarke Heath Trent of Oklahoma, Charles Bert Trent of Donley Co., Texas and James B. Trent of Tarrant/Dallas Co., Texas.



A descendant of Greenville Trent of Washington Co., VA has tested with another lab. The results would put him into Group 1 on the Y Results page.  His value at DYS460 is 11.



The results of a descendant of James Burton and Elizabeth (Johnson) Trent are shown in Group 4 on the Y Results page.  James Burton Trent was born about 1795. He was a stepson of William D. Trent, Sr., b. VA, 1770-1780, listed as the most distant ancestor of kits 38045 and 82035. The biological father of James Burton Trent is not known, but his descendants use the Trent surname, and include the "Snowbird Trents" of E. TN.

The results of a 37 marker test made by a descendant of Zachariah J. Trent, son of Cynthia Trent of Hancock County, TN, show no march with any Trent lines.  There is a 36 of 37 marker match with two Wilburn descendants.
