Ladies, we need YDNA please so do your bast to get your father or brother to join with a YDNA test if your multi Great grandparent was involved. 
It does not matter whether your ancestor was a member of the military or a civilian.  But it is important to learn which Kingdom he was representing.

If you know he was an English man or a Scotsman or an Irish man, do please ensure that this is stated in your profile.  Please also include whether he was a Covenanter (as an example) or a supporter of Charles (also an example) or otherwise.
And definitely include whether your ancestor was shipped off to the colonies as many of the Covenanters were or simply jailed or killed in one of the many battles.
In this way, the project can be more accurately sub-grouped rather than rely purely on STRs.
