I THINK I finally broke through my direct maternal line brick wall after getting to the mother of Elizabeth Ransdell. I'm waiting for my FTDNA results to accompany my ancestrydna test.
Lt. William Henry Thornton of Hillwood Plantation - now Bull Run Winery. My ggg-grandfather
Adeline Stuart Thornton
Being adopted, it's all news to me. This is a picture of Ernest Thornton, perhaps my paternal grandfather (only tests will tell) whom I researched a few years back when they released the 1940s census information, revitalizing the research Jodi Colella is undertaking (she has evidence that she is my sister). I was intrigued that his claim of profession was "Watch Maker" as I am a computer programmer and wondered about why I might have been drawn to the intricacies of computer engineering. For me this was a strong indication that what case workers (and those Thorntons who sought me out) was telling me is true. I'm curious about his life story, as he died at a relative young age, during the beginning of the US involvement in WWII -- (I've seen his tombstone, he died in his 40s in 1941) in a neighborhood not far from where I live. I believe I also have a photograph of his wife, Helen.
The man whom I have been lead to believe is my biological father, Charles Paul Monroe Thornton, with his pet monkey. I never met him.

This picture is my grandmother, Mary Alice Thornton Johnson. She was the daughter of John F Thornton, the son of David William Thornton and Mary Ellen Edwards Thornton. The child in the photo is my sister, Mary Virginia. This photo would have been taken in 1936, just before she died. My grandparents were living with my family in Birmingham Alabama at that time.
