About us

A partnership between the Swiss Romandy yDNA Project and the Fondation Archives Vivantes (FAV) of Switzerland was
officially introduced at the FAV's Annual General Assembly held on February 14, 2020 . Please note that FAV offers to act a proxy for any individual who would rather keep his identity absolutely private. The Fondation can be reached at :

The goal of the Swiss Romandy yDNA Project is to compare the yDNA (DNA of the Y chromosome) of families from the French-speaking part of Switzerland (Romandy), in order to estimate how closely they are related and to learn about their origins. The map at
shows the Romandie area in green.

Eligible people are men whose direct paternal line (father's father's father etc.)

(1) lived in the French-speaking part of Switzerland
(2) had a surname that held citizenship in a French-speaking Swiss community before 1800 according to the Register of Swiss Surnames at .

Women, and men whose French Swiss ancestry is from non-paternal lines, may participate by recruiting a male relative who meets the criteria above, to supply a DNA sample.
