Research Note: All Participants in this Group have tested 67 markers; their confirmed Haplogroup is C3. According to Family Tree DNA, ...“Haplogroup C is found throughout mainland Asia, the south Pacific, and at low frequency in Native American populations. This lineage colonized New Guinea, Australia, and north Asia, and currently is found with its highest diversity in populations of India. The C3 lineage is believed to have originated in southeast or central Asia. This lineage then spread into northern Asia, and then into the Americas."

#232 has a 66/67 match with #34885; the Family Tree DNA Time Predictor (FTDNATiP) for this near perfect match indicates a Common Ancestor Probability (CAP) of 100% within 22 generations.  These two Participants had a perfect match at 37 markers and I stated that this “perfect match” provided us a “preliminary” Ancestral Result for the Common Ancestor.  Since we now have a single marker mismatch at marker DYS511 we do not have a “confirmed” Ancestral Resu  If a 67/67 match can be located the single marker mismatch at DYS511 would indicate a “branch” to the genetic line of descendant.  The identity of the Common Ancestor cannot be determined from the current genealogy research provided by these Participants.

#232 has a 65/67 match with #632258, the mismatch occurs on marker DYSCDYa and DYS641, a CAP of 100% within 22 generations.  He has a 65/67 match with #B63204, the mismatch occurs on marker DYS458 and DYS641, a CAP of 99.99% within 24 generations.  He has a 64/67 match with #122661, the mismatch occurs on marker DYS389-1, DYS389-2 and DYS572; a CAP of 99.99% within 24 generations.

#14143 has a 66/67 match with #232, their mismatch occurs on marker DYS447; a CAP of 100% within 22 generations.  He has a 65/67 match with #34885, the mismatch occurs on marker DYS447 and DYS511; a CAP of 99.99% within 24 generations.  #14143 has a 64/67 match with #122661, the mismatch occurs on marker DYS389-1, DYS389-2, and DYS447; a CAP of 99.94% within 24 generations.  He also has a 64/67 match with #B63204, the mismatch occurs on marker DYS458, DYS447, and DYS641, a CAP of 99.93% within 24 generations.

#34885 has a 64/67 match with #122661, their mismatch occurs on marker DYS389-1, DYS389-2, and DYS511; a CAP of 99.94% within 24 generations.  He also has a 64/67 match with #B63204, the mismatch occurs on marker DYS458, DYS641 and DYS511, a CAP of 99.99% within 24 generations.

#122661 and #B63204 have a 63/67 match, their mismatch occurs on marker DYS389-1, DYS389-2, DYS458, and DYS641, a CAP of 99.75% within 24 generations.

#632258 and #B63240 have a 65/67 match; their mismatch occurs on marker DYS458 and CDYa, a CAP of 100% within 22 generations.  He has a 64/67 match with #34885, the mismatch is on DYSCDYa, DYS458 and DYS511, a CAP of 99.99% within 24 generations.  He also has a 64/67 match with #14143, the mismatch is on DYS447, DYSCDYa and DYS641, a CAP of 99.99% within 24 generations.  He has a 63/67 match with #580501, the mismatch is on DYS458, DYSCDYa/b, and DYS481, a CAP of 99.99% within 24 generations.  He also has a 63/67 match with #122661, the mismatch occurs on markers DYS389-1/2, DYSCDYa and DYS641, a CAP of 99.94% within 24 generations.

The Lineage provided by CA Group 1 Participant #B63204 and CA Group 2 Participant #42124 show the Common Ancestor James Stout (1694-abt 1727).  #B63204 claims descent from James (1715-1803), son of James, and #42124 claims descent from John (1713-1790), son of James.  #B63204 is from Haplogroup C-M216 while #42124 is from Haplogroup R-P311.  The mismatch on the Haplogroup proves there is a conflict with the genealogical research.

The diagram CAG1 on the Photos page is representative of current information and is subject to revision as additional Participants are tested.  Ancestors are listed with birth years unless otherwise noted.  The DYS marker at the end node determines the Genetic Distance and are the mutations which vary from the Group 1 modal values (#232 matches the modal for 67 markers); these markers may be "branch" markers for the designated lineage.  Participants in "red" have identified their oldest Ancestor as "Richard", the same oldest Ancestor as Group 2 Participants.  However, DNA results suggest conflicting information with the genealogical research.

Mark Reginald Stout (1925-2007) & [Living] >> John Thomas Stout (1904-1953) & Ethel Johnson (1904-?) >> Mark Stout (1868-1923) & Emma Ann or Ada (Elliott) Archer (1877-?) >> Thomas (abt 1822-1888) &  Ann  Mellors (?-1911) >> John Stout (abt 1782-1865) & Martha Hackitt (1787-1867) >> John Stout (?-1834) & Anne Hunter (?-1829) >> Thomas Stout (abt 1715-1762/63) & Elizabeth Webster (abt 1719-1810/11) >> John Stout (abt 1684-1740) & Anne Grammar (1684/85-1746) >> Charles Stout (1650-1715) & Ann Benet (1664-1688) >> Francis  Stout (1609-1651) & Jane Wightman (1613-1658) >> John Stout b. abt 1586 in England, d. 1653 in England, he md. Margaret Jebbe 22 Nov 1607 in Gedling, England, she was b. ? in England, d. 7 Feb 1638 in England.

Research Note:
Participants in this Group have a predicted Haplogroup of R1b1a2. According to Family Tree DNA, “…R1b1 is the most common Haplogroup in European populations.” Because of this fact every Participant with this Haplogroup should test ALL markers, so we have the maximum amount of genetic information for determining close relationships. Current test results show a number of Participants in this Group may not be genetically related within the genealogical time frame of documented surnames. However, there are a few Participants (#53790, #59523, #101252, and #122067) in the Group who are genetically related to each of the unrelated Participants. Perhaps this conundrum will be resolved when more DNA results are available from current Participants or additional documented research is provided. I will keep the current assignment of Participants to this Group until more DNA data is available. According to Family Tree DNA a Genetic Distance of 6 or higher should be interpreted as "Not Related"...their statement..."...the odds greatly favor that you have not shared a common male ancestor with this person within thousands of years."

#53790 tested only 12 markers and has a 12/12 match with #231, #59523, #101252, #122067, #138610, #153375, #159058, #182105, and #184042; a CAP of 91.41% within 24 generations. He has an 11/12 match with #196189 a CAP of 75.09% within 28 generations.  He has an 11/12 match with #170405 a CAP of 68.87% within 24 generations. He has an 11/12 match with #42124; a CAP of 67.37% within 24 generations. He also has an 11/12 match with #34209 a CAP of 66.71% within 24 generations The probabilities are different for these 11/12 matches because they occur on different markers with different mutation rates. While #53790 is currently assigned to this Common Ancestor Group he should test ALL markers to confirm a relationship to the Group Participants.

The Lineage provided by #232 and CA Group 2 Participants #53790, #59523, #159058, #184042, #211169 and #211224 shows the Common Ancestor Samuel Stout (1740-1816).  #232 descends from Joseph (1773-1839), son of Samuel; #53790 descends from Peter (1763-1831), son of Samuel; #59523 descends from Jacob (1782-1870), son of Samuel; and #159058, #184042, #211169 and #211224 descend from Samuel (1771-1839), son of Samuel.  Primary source documentation was not provided by most Participants, however, if secondary sources are accurate the DNA test results indicate that Joseph has C3 lineage, while the other three brothers have R1b1a2 lineage.  #232 descends from Hosea (1810-1889), son of Joseph.  To confirm the C3 lineage of Joseph, it is important to test males descending from Allen Joseph Stout, brother of Hosea.

#159058 and #211224 have an exact 67/67 match.  The nearest Common Ancestor for these two Participants is Ridley Stout (1896-1966).  We therefore have the Ancestral Result for Ridley.  In addition we can also state that the Ridley line shows one distinctive lineage marker which is different from the Group 2 Modal Value.  The Ridley line is currently identified with DYS438d=13 while the Group 2 Modal Value is 12 for this marker.

#184042 has a 66/67 match with #159058 and #211224.  These three Participants share the Common Ancestor Thomas Fletcher Bates Stout (1856-1929).  There also appears to be a distinctive lineage marker DYS464d=16 for these three descendants.  Because this marker is different from the Group 2 Modal Value of 18 this marker is an apparent branch marker for Thomas Fletcher Bates Stout.

#211169 has a 66/67 match with #184042 and a 65/67 match with #159058 and #211224.  These four Participants share the Common Ancestor Samuel Stout (1771-1839).  This group of four also share the Common Ancestor Samuel Stout (1740-1816) with Participants #53790 and #59523.  #53790 descends from Peter (1763-1831), son of Samuel; #59523 descends from Jacob (1782-1870), son of Samuel; and #159058, #184042, #211169 and #211224 descend from Samuel (1771-1839), son of Samuel.  These are the only Participants in the Project, with the same Haplotype, who claim a Common Ancestor within seven generations.  Participants #53790 and #59523 are encouraged to test ALL markers so we can resolve the Ancestral Result for Samuel (1740-1816) and help clarify the genetic branching within the lineage of the Oldest Ancestor “Richard.”

#251050 is the Projects' first Participant from England and finally provides an English Y-DNA lineage with significant matches to Richard (1615-1705), one of the American Immigrant Ancestors.  This Participant tested 67 markers and has the Haplogroup R1b1a2.  He has a 66/67 match with #101252; a CAP of 100% within 22 generations.  He has a 65/67 match with #211169; a CAP of 99.99% within 25 generations.  He has a 65/67 match (Genetic Distance 3) with #184042; a CAP of 99.98% within 28 generations. He has a 64/67 match with #182105 and #220588; a CAP of 99.98% within 28 generations.  He has a 63/67 match with #138610; a CAP of 99.92% within 28 generations.

#231 has a 34/37 match with #59523 and #184042; a CAP of 98.74% within 24 generations. He has a 33/37 match with #170405; a CAP of 97.33% within 24 generations. He has a 33/37 match with #159058; a CAP of 96.45% within 24 generations. He has a 33/37 match with #182105; a CAP of 96.28% within 24 generations. He has a 33/37 match with #153375; a CAP of 95.27% within 24 generations. He also has a 33/37 match with #122067; a CAP of 94.59% within 24 generations. The probabilities are different for these 33/37 matches because they occur on different markers with different mutation rates. Genetic Distance results for #231 indicate he is most likely NOT genetically related to #34209, #42124, #138610 and #196189.

#101252 tested 67 markers and has a 65/67 match with #182105; a CAP of 99.98% within 24 generations. He also has a 65/67 match with #184042; a CAP of 99.98% within 24 generations. He has a 64/67 match with #138610; a CAP of 99.91% within 24 generations. He also has a 64/67 match with #159058; a CAP of 99.9% within 24 generations. The probabilities for these 65/67 and 64/67 matches are different because they occur on different markers with different mutation rates. He has a 37/37 match with #122067; a CAP of 100% within 24 generations. He has a 36/37 match with #196189; a CAP of 100% within 28 generations.  He has a 36/37 match with #59523 and #153375; a CAP of 99.96% within 24 generations. He has a 34/37 match with #42124; a CAP of 98.74% within 24 generations. He has a 33/37 match with #170405; a CAP of 95.76% within 24 generations. He has a 33/37 match with #34209; a CAP of 95.27% within 24 generations. He also has a 33/37 match with #231; a CAP of 94.59% within 24 generations. The probabilities for these 33/37 matches are different because they occur on different markers with different mutation rates.

#59523 has a 36/37 match with #182105; a CAP of 99.99% within 24 generations. He has a 36/37 match with #184042; a CAP of 99.99% within 24 generations. He also has a 36/37 match with #122067; a CAP of 99.96% within 24 generations. He has a 35/37 match with #159058; a CAP of 99.86% within 24 generations.  He also has a 35/37 match with #196189; a CAP of 99.94% within 28 generations.  He has a 34/37 match with #170405; a CAP of 99.05% within 24 generations. He also has a 34/37 match with #34209; a CAP of 98.92% within 24 generations. He has a 33/37 match with #138610; a CAP of 96.05% within 24 generations. He also has a 33/37 match with #42124; a CAP of 94.62% within 24 generations.

#34209 has a 33/37 match with #184042; a CAP of 96.54% within 24 generations. He has a 33/37 match with #182105; a CAP of 96.28% within 24 generations. He also has a 33/37 match with #122067 and #153375; a CAP of 95.27% within 24 generations. The probabilities for these 33/37 matches are different because they occur on different markers with different mutation rates. #34209 has a 32/37 match with #159058; a CAP of 92.14% within 24 generations. He also has a 32/37 match with #42124; a CAP of 89.99% within 24 generations. According to Family Tree…”If enough time has passed it is possible these group members are distantly related family members. However that would nearly require that each line had passed a separate mutation and one would have experienced 2! The only way to confirm or deny is to test additional family lines and find where the mutation took place. Expressed another way, assume your score puts you at 3 on the clock. Assume the person from you is at the 9 position. Only by further testing can you find the person in between each of you...this in 'betweener' becomes essential for you to find, and in their absence the possibility of a match exists, but further evidence should be pursued.” Genetic Distance results for #34209 indicate he is most likely NOT genetically related to #231, #138610, #170405 and #196189.

#42124 has a 35/37 match with #196189; a CAP of 99.92% within 28 generations.  He has a 34/37 match with #122067; a CAP of 98.74% within 24 generations. He has a 33/37 match (Genetic Distance 5) with #153375; a CAP of 94.62% within 24 generations. He has a 32/37 match with #182105; a CAP of 87.97% within 24 generations. He also has a 32/37 match with #184042; a CAP of 87.33% within 24 generations. The explanation for the 'betweener' also applies to these 32/37 and 33/37 matches. Genetic Distance results for #42124 indicate he is most likely NOT genetically related to #231, #138610, #159058 and #170405.

#122067 has a 36/37 match with #196189; a CAP of 100% within 28 generations.  He has a 35/37 match with #182105; a CAP of 99.78% within 24 generations. He also has a 35/37 match with #184042; a CAP of 99.76% within 24 generations. He has a 34/37 match with #138610; a CAP of 99.12% within 24 generations. He also has a 34/37 match with #159058; a CAP of 99.08% within 24 generations. He has a 33/37 match with #170405; a CAP of 95.76% within 24 generations. Even though #122067 shows a probable relationship to #138610, #159058, and #170405, the Genetic Distance between these three Participants indicates that they are most likely NOT genetically related to each other.

#153375 has a 35/37 match with #122067; a CAP of 99.96% within 24 generations. He has a 35/37 match with #182105; a CAP of 99.78% within 24 generations. He has a 35/37 match (Genetic Distance 3) with #196189; a CAP of 99.94% within 28 generations.  He also has a 35/37 match with #184042; a CAP of 99.76% within 24 generations. He has a 33/37 match with #159058; a CAP of 99.08% within 24 generations. He has a 33/37 match with #138610; a CAP of 96.05% within 24 generations. He also has a 33/37 match with #170405; a CAP of 95.76% within 24 generations. Even though #153375 shows a probable relationship to #138610, #159058 and #170405 the Genetic Distance between each of these three Participants indicates that they are most likely NOT genetically related to each other.

#182105 has a 66/67 match with #211169; a CAP of 100% within 22 generations.  #182105 has a 65/67 match with #184042; a CAP of 99.99% within 24 generations.  He has a 64/67 match with #211224; a CAP of 99.99% within 28 generations.  He has a 63/67 match with #159058; a CAP of 99.94% within 24 generations.  He has a 62/67 match with #138610; a CAP of 98.41% within 24 generations.

#184042 has a 66/67 match with #159058; a CAP of 100% within 24 generations. He has a 62/67 match with #138610; a CAP of 98.31% within 24 generations.

#196189 has a 33/37 match with #138610; a CAP of 99.04% within 28 generations.  He also has a 33/37 match with #159058; a CAP of 98.99% within 28 generations.  Genetic Distance results for #196189 indicate he is most likely NOT genetically related to #231, #34209 and #170405.

Participants #42124, #53790, #59523, #159058, #184042, #211169 and #211224 claim the same Oldest Ancestor as #232 from CA Group 1.  However, DNA test results confirmed there is NO “genetic” relationship between these two CA Groups.  However, there may still be a “family” relationship based on undocumented circumstances.  This relationship might be explained by a "non-paternal" event, which could be an unreported adoption, in at least one of the “Richard” lines of descent.  The Haplogroup C3 indicates this “adoptee” may have Native American lineage.

Because of the disparity of test results for Group 2 Participants we cannot conclude that “Richard” is the Common Ancestor for the Group. The Common Ancestor may be in the period beyond 24 generations. The “lines of Richard” are apparently complex and difficult to sort and analyze, therefore, ALL Participants claiming this lineage are encouraged to test the maximum markers available. With test results available for only a few Participants we are unable to resolve the “genetic lineage of Richard” and verify the traditional genealogy research of any Participant. This Project will require testing multiple males, from ALL the “sons of Richard,” to analyze all the “genetic information” we can. Each additional male tested will provide “new” information to aid in our attempt to resolve the apparent conflict in the genetic lineage of the current Participants who claim a lineage to him. Family Tree DNA states…”This is an important and very practical question that speaks to the heart of genealogical testing and research. The chance that a match does not exist due to infidelity or unreported adoptions occurs 2%-5% of the time per generation. For families trying to do family reconstruction, it is prudent to test 2 different known male cousins from each different branch."

The diagram CAG 2 on the Photos page is representative of current information and is subject to revision as new Participants are tested.  Ancestors are listed with birth years unless otherwise noted. The markers at the end node are the mutations which vary from the Group2 modal values and may be "branch" markers for the designated lineage.  The red markers are "fast" mutating markers. Ancestors in "red" have been listed by two of more Participants from different Haplogroups and DNA results suggest conflicting information with the genealogical research. Participants in "blue" are most likely NOT related based on the Genetic Distance mismatch.  The Participants in "green" are perfect 67/67 matches; #159058 matches #211224, and #211169 matches #B25343.
