About us

One goal is to discover if descendants of Richard Singletary (d1687 in Massachusetts, USA, age 102) match Singletarys of known English origin. This will help define the one or more origins of the surname SINGLETARY. As of February 27, 2018, the project has established that:
  • there is only one Singletary family in the United Kingdom and
  • they DO NOT share a paternal ancestry with descendants of the immigrant Richard Singletary.
A second, corresponding goal is to solve the mystery of the Singletary family immigration tale - that Richard was kidnapped as a child, taken to America, and given the surname SINGLETARY. Do known descendants of Richard match descendants of the Booths of Dunham-Massey?

The third goal is to define the branches of the family tree of Richard in America by lineage and marker mutation so descendants of Dennis DONHAM (b1751 in Woodbridge, NJ, USA) and Peter B. ALSTON (b1796 in South Carolina, USA) can be reconnected to the family. There also seem to be at least one family line in colonial South Carolina using the surname SINGLETON and at lest one using the surname DUNNAM
