About us
Spring 2023 New project administrator - Sarah Fezio, daughter of the late Julia Shiflett Croswell who founded the Shiflett Family Website.
Jan. 2, 2013 We're up to 6 yDNA members, 1 mtDNA member and 1 Family Finder member. It only took me slightly over a year to post the new member of Aug. 2011's lineage. I am so sorry, Terri! I hope everyone will feel free to write me (as often as needed) if I don't respond in a timely manner again.
Out of 6 yDNA participants, at 37 markers, two are perfectly matched but at 67 markers they are one marker/mutation off. The others range from 1 to 4 markers off from each of the others.

Aug. 21, 2011 We have a new participant in the project. Looking forward to seeing who his ancestors are.
I started tracking down Vickie Hensley this summer only to find that she had passed away. This truly is a loss for Shiflett researchers because she was already working on the origins of the Shiflett surname when I started researching years ago. She believed then that the name originated in France. DNA results has backed up what she believed. I hope that her research was saved and shared since she had invested so much time and energy into it.
Chuck Shiflett was kind enough to agree to be co-admin for this project last fall since the admin can be somewhat "flaky". Thank you so much Chuck!
Dec. 4, 2010 Results are back and 1 participant is 4 markers off from the other two at 67 markers. This means that two are closely related, but one is "not tightly related (1-2 markers off) or very tightly related (0 markers off)". It appears that the common ancestor will be further back than previously thought. More research will be done to understand this finding. The odd one is my own line.
On a personal note, my kit # 133315 had been listed with Thomas, b. 1736 as the furthest back ancestor based on the Shiflet family site. His name will be removed while I get back to researching for myself. I apologize for misleading anyone about this. All of my other surnames and DNA projects information is solely based on my own research, as this one should be too.
Sept 9, 2010 The AWOL administrator is back. Many apologies for the absence! The 3 participants are not as closely related as we would have thought so: 1) we will be requesting that 2 of them upgrade to 67 markers, and 2) we will become more active in encouraging others to join. This area is open to anyone to post news or specific lines they are looking for. Just send the request and one of us will add it.
November 26, 2008 We have our first participant as well as finding out that the Deep Clade results for this family is the I1 haplogroup.
I1 is from Northern France, considered to be part of the Scandanavian countries.
