About us
The Shields Surname Project is dedicated to advancing our understanding of Shields ancestry through a combination of genetic testing, historical research, and descendant collaboration. Our current goals include:
- Expanding Y-DNA participation among male Shields descendants to refine haplogroup structures and identify distinct lineage clusters
- Integrating autosomal DNA (atDNA) data to support kinship analysis across maternal and collateral lines
- Resolving geographic origin questions through targeted SNP analysis and historical record synthesis
- Documenting and preserving lineages by correlating DNA results with vital records, land deeds, migration patterns, and family narratives
- Fostering collaboration among researchers and descendants through surname studies, online communities, and shared discoveries
- Promoting education and ethical standards in genetic genealogy, including transparent communication and responsible data handling
By working together, we aim to build a lasting legacy of Shields family history for future generations.
