About us
The Savacool-Sufficool Surname Project was created to explore the genealogical and genetic lineages of the Savacool-Sufficool families and the variations of those surnames. Throughout the United States (and the world), there are many variations of the surname, such as Savacool, Savercool, Sufficool, Sovocool, Suffacool, Safficool, Sovercool, Sovacool, Savocool, Savelkuhl, among others. We suspect that these surnames are variations of the same surname.
We are aware that Savacool genealogists trace their heritage to two immigrant ancestors: a Jacob (Jacobus) Savacool, who immigrated to America in 1731 and settled in Pennsylvania, and a William (Wilhemus) Savacool, who immigrated to America in 1749 and settled in Sussex County, New Jersey. Some have suggested that Jacob and William were possibly brothers or cousins. We also know that those surnames were spelled multiple ways, even among those immigrants and within those families. There are some who suggest that a third immigrant (or possibly more) might be responsible for other variations of the name.
This project intends to try to encourage as wide participation as possible, particularly among male descendants of the Savacool-Sufficool surnames (and variations) with genetic testing through Y-DNA tests. Ideally, participants would be encouraged to do Big Y (Y-700) testing, as this provides the most research value, although all Y-testers would be welcome.
Once we gain enough participation, we will be able to begin tracing the lineage of these trees by analyzing genetic mutations in those lines and possibly answering some of the many questions that genealogists have long had about the Savacool-Sufficool surnames. This might help us to understand what lines actually exist and the relationships between those lines.
