This project will focus on the Saponi tribe and our descendants. It is led and sponsored by the Saponi Descendants Association. The historic Yesa people include the Saponi, Tutelo, Occaneechi, Manahoac-Mahock, Eno, Sara-Cheraw and Monacan. Geographical reference points are the Virginia and North Carolina Piedmont as well as the Ohio River Valley. Linguistically our people spoke Tutelo which is an Ohio Valley Siouan language or OVS for short.
